Keeping our fingers and paws crossed here for Frankie. Hope you find out something even if not what you hope for. It's easier to deal with problems when you know what you're facing. Not knowing is the worst. Good Luck! |

Back from our appt. The neurologist was very nice. He can't see any reason to have the BAER test done. He's either going to tell us he can hear or not. It wont tell us if he doesn't process the sounds properly in the brain, or what sounds he can and can not hear. We know he can hear some things and others he can't already. He mentioned what we are doing is the best hearing test a person can do. He hates to see us spend the money, when in all reality if we find out he can't hear there is nothing different that we can do. He did some kind of touch test of his feet to make sure the problem isn't a brain stem problem, and he is sure it's not. If his behavior continues to change then he wants to do a MRI of his brain. He mentioned maybe Frankie just wasn't that smart.. Now wait a minute, only a momma can say that. So thats where we stand. I will continue to train with hand signals and voice commands for now. Thanks for all of your concerns Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
Thank you for letting us know what the neurologist had to say. Gosh I do not know what to say, except I know his mommy & Mattie, think he is the greatest sheepie and he knows how much both of you love him too much. Sending hugs to Frankie and to you too,Lisa. |
He may simply be unilaterally deaf and there really isn't anything you can do about that except maybe figure out if he hears better in some situations than others. Most unilaterally deaf OES do seem to learn how to compensate. I competed against one in agility for years before her owner happened to mention she couldn't hear in one ear. I had no clue. He really suggested the dog was potentially just plain dumb? I think I'd be darn offended! Kristine |
just had to say of the varieties of doctors, neurologists are the worst at bedside manner. i wouldn't give that remark a second thought, just move on like you are. frankie's da man. |
Have you decided his walking into things is "hair in eyes?" Otherwise, deafness or even partial deafness isn't anything. Just means you'll find yourself telling him to do things and suddenly realize, "Why am I doing this??" |
