My cat Moo can not eat can food or anything with any trace of seafood! He gets ick poo with seafood stuff! |
Has the vet suggested anything else?? Another food? Some medication?? What about feliway? That's what it's called here in Aus. It's a synthetic pheronome that calms the cat down. When my Mom had work done on her house we got some kitty prozac for her cat, who was vomiting constantly, on the bed and totally stressed out. Just a half dose a day did the trick. She was pretty out of it for the first couple of days so we had to make sure she drank and ate but after that she was just really laid back. As to the hair balls my rule is if your DH isn't prepared to groom the cat himself then he has no say in the clipping decision. Don't want to cause a divorce though so it's just my rule. |
Thats a thought. It's been coming up as quick as it's going down. HMMM Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
Forgot to mention once the workmen all went away Mom weaned her off the prozac and she's fine. Still a very nervous kitty but she has her house back the way she likes it, quite and orderly, so she can cope. She still vomits up the occasional hair ball but some hair ball stuff fixes that. Also I would check with the vet re urinary tract. Missy had a mild chronic infection that was relatively symptom free (to us) The vet found blood cells in her urine when he sedated her and obtained a needle aspirated urine sample. A course of anitbiotics worked wonders on the vomiting. |
I would deworm him first..... For the hairballs there are hairball remedies... I have 2 long haired cats and never groom either of them... I just don't need to. They groom themselves. Cats, being cats, occasionally vomit. I just shrug and clean it up. Re blood in the stool though, I think deworming first is a place to start. |
Oh I forgot to mention. The first time he had blood in his stool about a month or so ago, I brought in a sample. No parasites or anything. But what did come back in his blood work. I can't think what they called it now. Something to do with his white blood cells. It usually means either a parasite or an allergy. She said she can't imagine he has parasites, he has never been outside. I was told to call back at the end of the week and give an update. I'll do that tomorrow. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
Increased leukocytes?? And he doesn't have to go outside to get parasites especially seeing as you have dogs. The dogs go outside then they come back in a share bowls or lick each other etc and bingo cross pollination. I think Jill has a point - deworm. Maybe ask the vet what meds will be gentlest on an already upset gut. |
Fecals quite often come back as negative... I deworm all my cats and dogs every six months anyway..... I can't imagine an allergy causing blood in the stools only occasionally.... |
Both of my cats are pukers, and recently New Cat (poor thing is going to be called that forever) showed blood in her stools. My vet suspects food allergies, so we've been trying new foods with "unusual" protein sources. So far, Rabbit has been good with both kitties. There's much less puke, and no more blood in the stool. My first cat was eating a low protein diet for a while- my other 2 cats were on a renal diet before they passed away, and this seemed to REALLY help my third cat's food allergies. New Cat did okay on it too, but she's only 2 years old and the vet was sure she needed more nutrition than Renal diet gives cats. But if Buzzy is older, and possibly having digestion problems, try renal diet. The low protein content seemed to really help my one cat's food allergies. Good luck! |
Who makes the renal diet? From what our vet told us there is a difference between having blood in there stool and blood on it. His is kind of a mucusy yuck. TMI I know. As much grief as Frankie gives him I'd be puking too. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |

OH Yes He has a whole finished basement that the dogs never go in. When I go to work, I babygate the dining room so he can come from downstairs sneek under the gate, and get up on his 6ft tall perch. But he would rather lay in the dog crate. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
^^^^^^ Hahahah that's a cat for you. Rowdy is obsessed with Tiggy's crate. I think it's because I threw so many treats in there when I was training Tiggy that Rowdy thinks it's a treat dispensing crate. If I get up at night and let Tiggy out I have to put the lights on now, as twice I've been woken up again by a siamese yowling and discovered that when I put Tiggy back in her crate in the dark I shut Rowdy in as well. He doesn't like being shut in there with Tiggy. |
When we got new carpeting in the hallway and bedrooms the only request for color was cat puke brown. Really. The cat left stains all over and once they set its there for life. The cats are gone now and I hate the color of the carpeting. |
Another thought is going to feline only vet. I know some people and cats who absolutely had huge improvements in their quality of life by going to a cat centered vet. |
