Chiquita is 2 1/2 now. All of a sudden we've entered a very bored stage. I'm not sure why the change. She sleeps a lot more then she ever used to. We go to the dog park and walk her and have puppy play dates at our house. She gets along SO WELL with other dogs. Big, little, grumpy, puppy....she loves them all. I feel like she's mourning when they leave. She used to play and play and wrestle NON-STOP when other dogs came over. It was loud and exhausting for me. But now she plays and runs and then can take a nap with the other dog. It's wonderful! OMG.....Does she need another dog in the house???????? |

Could be another dog would keep her going! But, of my, how I counted down the days when Winnie would go from being the "eternal puppy" and demanding attention ALL DAY, EVERY DAY to part-time OLD LADY napping dog!!!! She hit that point at about 2 1/2 years and I've been celebrating ever since! |
Are you kidding? Enjoy the peace and quiet! I have to make my way through a full force wrestling rumble every time I walk through the living room. I'd love to watch television without a cage match taking place in front of it! BTW, all of this roughhousing is initiated by almost 7 year old Clyde. Owen only plays along to placate him. If were up to the other two dogs, there'd be none of this horseplay! |
Isn't the calm down around 2.5 years what all teenage mommies look forward to?!?!?! Although I agree with you that we want a perpetual puppy..... |
Also... I forgot to add..... YES!! YOU SHOULD GET ANOTHER SHEEPIE PUPPY!! |
Oliver who is 9 starts all the chaos!! He is a perpetual puppy. I dread the day he and Abbey slow down. BTW, isn't everybody suppose to have 2 sheepies? Nancy |
Quote: I'd love to watch television without a cage match taking place in front of it! actually laughed out loud when I read this and almost woke up the sleeping cage fighter we have in our house! Luckily his partner in crime is out at agility so no chance of such antics right now but this describes my evenings perfectly..! Definitely enjoy the peace and quiet.. I'm looking forward to the day Saxon settles down (and so is Inca..! ) Inca's Human |

Just tonight Gar took a flying leap from behind the end table, caught the perfectly working lamp with a foot and sent it flying, now the lamp doesn't work anymore. And yes, two sheepies is the norm. |
Thanks for all the replies! I guess it's just been SUCH a slow down that I thought maybe something was wrong. It is true that I prayed for these days. (puppyhood was hard on me as some of you will remember). She's healthy and great natured. Proud of the fact that she can run and get in the car w/out a leash We literally ADORE our sheepie. I guess I just wanted to make sure we treat her as good as she treats us. |
Tonks and Luna both slowed down so suddenly that I whisked them off to the vet. I was SURE they were sick, they were so lethargic! But no, they had matured almost overnight and at the same time. Adam still pesters me, asking "do you think they're bored?". Of course, he was never the "keeping the dogs occupied" person, so of course he does not see the benefit of this slow down. |
When we had our Buddiboy, I remember him getting to the same stage. All of a sudden he became very calm and almost too relaxed. We tried another oes puppy to keep him company so he could have a playmate. What a diaster, Buddi hid for 2 weeks in the basement and would not come out to eat or drink. When we took him to the vet , she said to me he did not need another playmate and the other dog was causing him to become depressed. After Buddi went after the puppy once, something we never saw him do, we had to find a new home for the puppy. After that lesson we all became content to know that Buddi would be the only king in our castle and he was happy for his 11 remaining years. |
