Mady tore her paw again

Mady tore her paw again herding last week, are there any suggestions on how to prevent this? Anything we can put on before herding?

Poor Mady. I don't have any suggestions, but I hope she heals quickly.
It depends on the reason why.... if the paw pads are too dry, or too soft, or there may be a slight fungal thing going on there...
Both times it happened it was during sheep herding and the paddock was very dry and hard. Mady goes full-tilt herding, running with hard stops and turns. I'll take and post a picture tonight.
What does your instructor think? It can pay to ask someone with experience if they've seen it before.

When Tiggy was around one year old she kept vertically splitting toe nails while running around at the park, so painful she couldn't put her foot to the ground within an hour of getting home. At one stage the vet was talking about operating to remove her nail as it had a fungal infection. It took 3 months of me bathing it morning and night with an antifungal wash to get it settled. I was determined to save the nail.

After two cracked nails and not even the specialist vet being able to tell me why it was happening I decided to try fish oil supplements after Lisa read something on the net about them helping. All went well until after about 6 months when I ran out and didn't get round to replacing for about 3 weeks. Guess what? Yep another split nail. I have made sure we haven't run out ever since. And we've had no more problems. I know it's not nails but it's feet and they are both caused by running and turning hard. Also can't do any harm.

Tiggy gets one omega 3 1000mg capsule a day, couldn't have stood the fishy beard if I put it on her dinner by the spoon full. She loves chewing them up to get the flavor. I ask her if she wants her lolly and she runs to the counter where I keep the tub. :D
That happened to Harry last year. And it was really dry with weed type grass.

There is some sort of spray you can put on to protect their pads. I can't remember what it is called. Dawn recommended it. If she doesn't reply I would PM her.

Poor Mady. :(

I put socks on Harry's feet after I put an ointment on his pads to speed up the heeling because of upcoming agility trials.
How is she doing? aw give her a kiss from us!
