Though I'd be surprised if they didn't contact her, unless because of their age they figure they'll be easy to place - I don't see the puppy listed anymore. She has really nice working relationships with area shelters. Mark - I meant to tell you, I once bailed an OES out for Madeline at the shelter where you volunteered the day your company sent you all out in the community to help out. They didn't habitually work with rescue back then and I had extensive instructions to bend over backwards to accommodate them to make sure they'd be willing to work with rescue again. Really nice people as it turned out. Mind you, this was almost a decade and a half ago. I never dealt with any of the shelters out by Buffalo, just Finger Lakes area and over to Herkimer, so I'm not at all familiar with the shelter in this case. Kristine |
Just spoke with SPCA "amy", all 3 are there and available. She stated they NOT under any hurry or threat of uthinizing...... There were rescued in a abuse case and are looking for permanent homes. I have call into Madeline (voice mail) and looking for reply......... |
I have potential homes here I can recheck if anyone wants to transport here!!!:0 |
While I can't foster, I can help with transport if any of these guys are coming east. Or a home visit if a potential adopter is in the Syracuse area. Kristine, We dealt with a woman named Carol at the Finger Lakes SPCA. Not sure if she's the one you dealt with. She did say that they had an OES about a year ago. It was adopted as fast as it came in. Went to CT. I gave her my name & contact info so they could contact me if an OES ever comes in. |
I can foster here but I guess I would be stepping on "toes" if I got them out of someone elses area. I never have understood that, in OES rescue. Why some areas seemed to belong to a certain rescue and you would get blasted if you adopted or pulled in that area. Not so with the other rescues I work with.....anyway the offer is there . They would be safe and well cared for if a place is needed. |

I've been noticing that New England has increasingly been pulling dogs in NY, yet I've never heard her "complain" about it. But since Madeline's literally just down the road, it makes the most sense to talk to her first just in case she's already working on it, despite what the person at the shelter said (too many cooks and all that) If you were to call her up and say, "Hey, I don't know if you're aware of these three dogs, but I have homes and I'd love to get them down to me, can you help?" Or: "and I have transport - I just wanted to make sure you weren't already working on this" chances are she'd help in some way. WI and MN consults this way just to make sure we're not both working on the same dog, though, frankly, more often than not it's MN that is covering in WI. We're already indebted to Nancy until well into the next century as it is. It's just a curteousy issue to make sure everyone's on the same page. Madeline is very pragmatic. Do you have her number? I think the "turf wars" in some areas back East started happening as the supply of OES started shrinking. Lord knows in the upper midwest, where most of us have precious few foster homes, we're just damn grateful when someone else is able to cover the situation. But it does help to know what's going on. These OES's are in the SPCA, and they will not have anything to do with Rescue....................... They want to meet and greet the new families if interested and to collect the dollars. The SPCA survives this way. the dogs are not in any danger and should be with permanent homes shortly........ There are people that want to adopt a sheepie, to do so with the SPCA you must visit, be screened and pay to have them spade or neutered...........(a good thing). Madeline has been fully aware of these 3 since yesterday and will inform her people...... Thanks for everyones concern......Mike |
Mike....aren't you still looking for a dog |
Thanks to everyone for checking in on them. If a shelter is a no-kill shelter, it's often best for rescue to simply offer assistance in case they find they need help. Some shelters do prefer to place dogs themselves which is understandable. In situations like this, I've known a few rescues to notify people they have waiting to adopt so they can meet the dog and submit an application with the shelter. OES rescue has already screened/approved the home and the family may get their dog sooner. There have been times when potential adopters got tired of waiting and have gone through less favorable sources for an OES so it's a win/win situation for everyone. |
Pictures have been added for Colleen and Darcy in case anyone is hoping to adopt... Colleen- http://www.petango.com/Adopt/Dog-Old-En ... g-13510068 Darcy- http://www.petango.com/Adopt/Dog-Old-En ... g-13510080 |

I wonder how far that is from me???? I am working in the area today and it would be nice to sneak out at lunch time and take a peek. My hubby would probably kill me but it might be nice just to have a little look see. |
well gail, i say go for it, but it's a long lunch 40 to 50 miles. drive like me, nobody will know. |
I was in Buffalo today and just got back from looking at Splash. She is a real cutie. Even has a tail Not to nippy for a 4 month old. Has a little skin issue on two of her legs and walks pretty well on a leash. Didn't get to see her interact with other dogs though. They can only hold for 24 hrs and I won't be able to bring my dogs to meet her until Sat. They say she will probably be gone by then. Have to see if she is still there on Fri. |
Great you got to check her out Seems odd they have 4 come in...someone thinning out the herd, huh? Did they say if they all were from the same source? |
OH MY a sheepdog with a tail...I so want one but Bob would kill me Gail I hope you get her |
They said that the mom and four pups came in a few weeks ago. All the rest were adopted already. She is thin only weighing in at 30 lbs for 4 months. I could easily feel her ribs and hip bones. No mats to speak of and the skin issue was a lot of scabs but no open wounds. She is on antibiotics. She did smell terribly and was in need of a bath and a good ear cleaning. Not sure if she is potty trained and that is why she smelled or what. I would have thought she would have been bathed and had her ears cleaned. I really wanted to offer to bath her and take care of those ears. I wished I had my ear cleaning stuff with me. They did mention that she could be fostered or fostered til adoption. I did wonder if there was someone in the area breeding since there were a few pups out that way 4-6 months ago as well. She did say they were all seized from the owner. |
So glad to hear you were able to go take a peek and give a report on Splash. Hopefully she will find a wonderful caring home. Robin |
