I’d like to get a gathering of Sheepies in Tipp City, OH. This is a very cool and laid back little town about 20 miles north of downtown Dayton, OH. Each year the host their annual Mum Festival. Tipp City has a really great downtown area with a narrow main street lined with old and ornate buildings housing antique shops and several cafes. This year it’s on September 23-25. Tipp as we call it has a dog park in one of their city parks that is about a mile from the Festival area. I figure we could spend the morning romping in the park and then invade the Festival. We could have our own parade of Sheepies! They typically have dozens of street venders selling some pretty nice crafty kind of items, many locally hand-made too. So, in a nutshell, we’re talking about being in Tipp City, OH 45371 on September 24, 2011. Thomas B. Kyle Park is where the dog park is and it’s just south of the center of town on South 1st St. Gathering time will be around 9AM, (this can be adjusted if needed) at the park, moving to the downtown area around noon. Below are some local websites that may help plan the weekend: http://www.tippcityohio.gov/ http://www.tippcitymumfestival.org/Welcome.htm If you’re coming in from such a distance that you’ll require a hotel, there are several located on the west side of town along Interstate 75. If you’d like help securing a reservation, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. There is only one pet friendly hotel in Tipp City: La Quinta Inn & Suites Dayton North - Tipp City 19 Weller Dr Tipp City, OH 45371 Phone: 1-937-667-1574 There are other hotels a short drive either north of south of Tipp if you’d like me to gather info. Because I know some will ask, no you don't have to have a sheepie, you just have to love them. I might even be persuaded to rent out one of mine by the hour! So let’s see how many Sheepies we can fit into Tipp City, OH! PM me for anything related. Vance |

Yay! I've been waiting for this post! Nick and I will be there ~ |
We have a commitment that weekend that is unavoidable The website looks awesome, what a great time everyone will have. |
We're planning to be there!!! |
Kyle Park has picnic areas too! We can either fire up a grill at the park or eat Festival food later. If we vote for the grilling, I'll supply the heat and meat!!! Vance |
[quote="I’d like to get a gathering of Sheepies in Tipp City, OH. [/quote] It's on the calendar - Olive and I look forward to meeting all our sheepie friends. Thank you for arranging this gathering. |
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are planning on being there. As long as you guys don't mind 2 unruly sheepies. Can't wait to meet new sheepis and there owners. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
Count Gertie and myself in, if the weather ever breaks. |
Gertie wrote: Count Gertie and myself in, if the weather ever breaks. This is why I held off and chose the date I did. The Farmer's Almanac is saying that September and October are to be cooler than normal so we should be good... providing it doesn't rain or snow. Vance |
We will be there. It will be nice to see everyone and meet all of the new sheepies. We have been so busy we haven't been able to make the other outings. I have been so busy I didn't get on here and find out about them!!! |
We'll drive up from Cincinnati for the day but I don't think we'll be there by 9:00 a.m. Sounds like a great event, Vance. Nancy |
Nancy, don't worry if you're fashionably late. This is a VERY informal thing. I'm like that. Heck, I told everyone invited to our wedding that if I saw ONE necktie, I was outta here. Wisely, no one showed up wearing a tie... Vance |
For any of you Sheepie-heads who plan on coming to the Dayton area gathering and have a sweet tooth, or like nuts, (peanuts, cashews and such), plan on bring some cash. Tipp City is the home of The Trophy Nut Company. I checked with them today and the Saturday of the Festival is their official start of their fall season when they're open on Saturdays! These guys make great nut and candies that are sold at their factory store. You can check out their website here, http://www.trophynut.com/default.aspx. We always get double dipped malted milk balls, double dipped chocolate covered peanuts and salted cashews, all in bulk of course... Vance |
Vance, do you have a street address for the park. We'll plug it into the GPS. Do you think that a few weeks before the event, we could take a vote on picnicking or eating at the festival? We can go either way but need to know what to bring. |

Do you think that a few weeks before the event, we could take a vote on picnicking or eating at the festival? We can go either way but need to know what to bring. The web site didn't have an address, but they did have directions: From I-75 take Exit 68 east through Tipp City's Historic Downtown to First Street (approximately 1.1 miles). Turn right (south) onto South First Street and proceed about ½ mile to the entrance of the park at Kyle Park Drive on the left. NAWA (Northern Area Water Authority) is on the right just past the entrance to the park. I was thinking a poll or something like that would be good. I'll do this towards the end of August. This might help with nailing down a more solid head count too. Vance |
If Nita will help me wrangle some of my dogs when I get there, maybe I'll drive down for the day. I can't just bring the sheepdogs and leave Bear at home though so I'll need extra hands! |
We've actually had several folks who want to come and don't have a dog... You may get your wish and not have to ask. Vance |
^^ Like me!!!! I'll take a dog or two off your hands ~ (Just make sure you get them back when you're heading home!!) |
Yep, we'll have plenty of hands with no leashes so bring the whole pack! Glad to hear some of you Michiganders are considering making the trip. Should be a good time during a really pretty time of year. |
I'll see what I end up planning during that week. I'm on vacation and maybe I'll take a trip that way with Teddy. Cindy |
I can't wait Not sure if we will bring Mattie, she's not really big on other dogs. Vance I have family in Brookville. Is that kind of close? Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
You all have fun...I should have planned my trip to Ohio a month later |

Lisa Frankie and Mattie Funny you should ask. I work in Brookville!!! Tipp City is probably only about 20 miles from Brookville and that's all interstate driving so it goes fast. Vance |

Vance Well Vance, maybe if Charm knows he's coming she will make her parents change their plans no matter what!....lol Cindy |
Charm isn't speaking to either of us now. She's so disappointed. These young girls I wish things were different that weekend. |
Well here's an open invite to Charm and Teddy; you're both welcome ANYTIME in our furry corner of the world. I gotta think I'm about half-way between the two of you. Vance |
What a kind offer We will definitely take you up on it |
This sounds like fun, although I wouldn't bring all three |
bestdogs wrote: This sounds like fun, although I wouldn't bring all three Why not? There'll be plenty to help out. Vance |
Heart keeps talking about going to this event and she is threatening to take a bus, if Dino and I refuse to go!!! So I am almost certain we will be visiting OH and spending time with all the wonderful sheepies that are attending. I know is it a little over a month away, but is there anything we need to bring??? Keep in mind, after packing all Hearts wardrobe, we will not have a lot of room ..... Who else is going???? Just curious,,, NIck and Joanna Val Denise Lisa Gerti Schoolmarm Nancy Jill Holly Dino and Val |
Heart doesn't have a enclosed pull-behind trailor for her wardrobe????? |
Heart will be attending? Oh my, so tempting.... |
It would be great if we could start to build a real head-count, both four legged and uprights. I'm gonna contact some local media and if I have big numbers, I'm sure that will help. So when you say you're coming, please indicate how many, people and dogs. Thanks! Vance |
Helen... IF there was a way..we would !! Between the grooming stuff, her bandana's, glitter, bling, headpretties...etc... (Bobtails and BLING...kind of like...Toddlers and Tiaras????) David????...I DARE you to meet us in OHIO~~~~~ no..no...I triple DARE ya~~~~ |
We will be there. Dale and I and of course Carley. She likes to take us with her when she visits places. Someone has to drive the van and hold the cup for her when she gets frozen yogurt. We will be coming from Middletown so it won't be a long drive. Let me know what we need to bring. I don't have many doggie accessories. Carley doesn't like them. She did wear a bandana for an entire day once. I need to learn how to put all of the cute little smilies on my messages. I will get my students to show me how! |
Sheesh, Val! How could you have forgotten US after that crazy night in Richmond, IN? Nita & Darrow with Nelson and Max Yvonne & Fred, possibly with Tucker and Wild Angel |
OMgoodness~~~~ How COULD have forgotten you and Yvonne??? A senior moment....Nita... oh and Vance...It will be Me, Dino and Heart... |
Count me and Teddy in!!! Heart will be there too! Well this will be interesting to see what Teddy does. Will he stay true to Charm? Teddy will be 8 and a half months old by then and we all know how teenage boys can be. Will he try to woo the older woman Heart with his devilish good looks? Maybe try to impress the pretty young thing Caitlyn with his show ribbons? Or flirt with any of the other pretty girls that are there? Will the girls be interested in him at this age? He did spend a few hours at Heart's house at Sheepiepalooza and she probably thought he was just a dumb kid then. But now that he's a little older maybe her being out of town will cause her to forget about Harry for the weekend? Maybe he will just want to hang out and run and play with the boys and think about his Charm missing him. Hmmmmmm....... we'll see what happens..... Cindy |
Great news for those who need a room! I spoke to the folks at the LaQuinta Inn and they're gonna hold a block of room for a discount. If you call the number below and tell them that you want a room for the Dayton Sheep-In,(pretty creative name, huh?), you'll get a $79 room $69, but you MUST call before Sept. 7. I know it's only 10 bucks, but it's something. La Quinta Inn & Suites Dayton North - Tipp City 19 Weller Dr Tipp City, OH 45371 Phone: 1-937-667-1574 More to come... Vance |
I just got back from Ohio! My timing is always off! Have fun! |
So whats every ones plan? Is everyone going to spend the night Friday or Saturday? Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
I think our plan is to leave St. Louis at about noon on Friday. And leave Ohio on Sunday morning or afternoon...AND...have a SHEEPIE blast in between ~~~~ |
babysheepie wrote: So whats every ones plan? Is everyone going to spend the night Friday or Saturday? Lisa Frankie and Mattie Lisa, I'm glad you mentioned that. The block of rooms is set to run Friday AND Saturday night. I just spoke to the Parks Director and we're good to go. He said he didn't see any issues so long as this isn't an event that requires a fee of any kind. I assured him that it was a purely social gathering. He's cool with that. Also, while Tipp may be a small town, the do have a Dairy Queen that Zoey is pretty fond of... Vance |

My plan sounds about the same as Val's! Cindy |
I just made our LaQuinta Reservation!!!! for friday, 9/23 and Sat. 9/24..... |
sheepieshake wrote: I just made our LaQuinta Reservation!!!! for friday, 9/23 and Sat. 9/24..... Ditto! Just got my email confirmation! Cindy |
A resident veteran of these events politely advised me to suggest all attendees to do the following: ~~Bring current shot records, just in case. ~~Make sure the dogs have name tags as well as your local dog license ~~Visit your vet right before you leave so he can check to make sure the 'chip' is still in place. They DO move around sometimes. And bring an umbrella. If we all have umbrellas, it won't rain... Right? I have some other things up my sleeve, so pay attention... Vance |
More good news... I have a friend who is a photographer, (although most of his work is hanging out a helicopter taking low altitude ariel shots...) is going to be there to take photos of the dogs WITH their uprights as well as candid shots. All for free! So wear your best! Vance |
I'll make home made dog biscuits for all of the pups, and Sheepie shaped cookies for the uprights. I thought I had cookie pics from the Chicago Sheepie Fest last year, but I dont. I just have one problem, I'm worried my 2 are going to act terrible. My little stem cell miracle is a terror on 4 legs anymore. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
Lisa...Please don't worry...ALL the sheepies love being together and playing. ..you can just feel the sheepielove!!!!!! |
Vance, please let me know what I can bring if we are having a cook-out. Cindy |
Maybe we can start a google document?? So we have a compiled list of things we can bring/contribute.... Here you go! Please click and add agendas/lists/items! https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aqq8HGPTWWwFdEh0QVhKVjF5d1JpUV9vampMSFVWb1E&hl=en_US |

I changed the name in the header to the Dayton Sheep-IN as that's what I told the hotel we were calling it and that's what folks who are staying there need to ask for to get the discount. This will avoid some confusion, I hope. BTW, Joanna, you RULE!!! Thanks a bunch! Vance |
Booked our rooms. Yay. Thanks Vance Lisa Frankie and Mattie |

Not sure about the rest of you, but I need all the help I can get in the remembering names department and this will help. Vance |
My wife was kind enough to point something out to me last night. The Festival is actually held in Tipp City's City Park which is five or six blocks North of downtown, not IN downtown like I was stating. I was thinking of another festival North of Tipp in Troy, OH. No biggie. It will actually work out better as the park is COVERED with huge shade trees lining the walkways instead of having us walk around on hot blacktop all day. I'll post a basic map of Tipp later so we can all get on the same page. Vance |
Vance...Can you give us a list of what is needed??? I am clueless as to what I should bring. If I missed this information, please repost for this senile old women..PLEASE.. |
I'm gonna swing by the park tonight on the way home to get a little more background on the park, i.e. if grilles are there or even allowed. After that, we can really start planning so hang tight... Vance |
Looking forward to the Sheep-in. It'll be the first time that Nita and Darrow have seen Andie in the two years since we adopted her from the Midwest Old English Sheepdog Rescue. |
Here's the flyer for the Sheep-In if anyone feels a need to print and post around town! http://www.violentlee.com/oes/Sheep-InFlyer_2011.pdf Vance |
I forgot to mention that the Friday night before the Sheep-In, the Festival is having a huge cruise-in where they shut down the entire downtown area. It attracts 2-300 hot rods, muscle cars and the like. Great place for the hubbies to meet up. Let me know if there are any takers from those who will be spending Friday night in Tipp. I could be pretty easily persuaded to show up... Vance |
