| A sheepdog stubborn???? No way! lol Welcome to our world. lol Violet is as stubborn as they come. lol Be glad you don't have an Aussie...China taught Asia how to pull her head through the collar (so the collar and lead are attached with no dog) when she really doesn't want to move. |
| Could she just be hot and not want to walk? I would not be surprised if this wonderful heat spell we are having has something to do with it. |
| ditto w/ Amber. There's hot and there's HOT! sidewalks and streets are especially brutal with hours and hours of heat building up in them. Since dogs cool by mouth evporation, high humidity slows that down......so poor thing is probably just HOT. Is she spayed? If not, might be seasonal stubborness coming on her. Then again, those stubborn months are still possible at 21 months  |

Sounds like something Sybil might do. Does she simultaneously give you a contemptuous look like you're an idiot for not realizing the obvious?  I've learned, well, still learning, to listen to Sybil in situations like that because she has the strongest sense of self-preservation I've run into in any dog. Let's just say if I was out on iffy ice or something like that, she's the dog I'd want to have with me.... Mind you, she also extremely - ehem - opinionated in other, to me, less critical ways. Depending on which agility runs my friend may have taped from this weekend, I may be able to illustrate one on tape. We had the same discussion, twice, on course, this weekend. Personally I think she's being persnickety  , but she's so frequently right that I've learned to listen to her. I've also noticed that the smarted the dog, the more stubborn they tend to be. | ^^^^ yes Kristine. Pyrs were bred to think independently......they work without direction from humans. You don't find the breed in obedience trials unless the dog thinks the upright is capable. Commands to Pyrs are suggestions. Call a Pyr...and they get back you when it is convenient. It's been my Pyrs who have warned me of danger far before the sheepdogs caught on. Sybil often sounds like a Pyr crossed her path........... |
| I am thinking the heat thing. Although this breed can be stubborn I think she would have exhibited it before now. The ones that I had with that trait displayed it early on. It took me a long time to realize that he's simply hardwired to want to please me and not dumber than a box of rocks; he'll actually take my word for things! I still find that totally bizarre, having always had bitches before him, but I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.  It can kind of go to your head. | I wonder if it's not just the heat. A couple of times in the past week, I would accept the extreme heat as the problem. But to contrast, this morning, we've had a cooling rain and the temperature has dropped significantly, it was probably low 70's. I took her out, she peed, took 10 more steps, then stopped and didn't want to walk. It might have something to do with our 2 houseguests who I was also walking, maybe it was a form of protest from Mady (Mady is still a bit ambivalent to our 2 houseguests)? I got her to keep walking and she pooped after 20 paces, so she obviously still needed the walk. |
