Beware of heat Advisory

This is just an extention of the prior post about poor Canyone who passed away from heat stroke..Prayers to him and his family...

However, I wanted to start another post due to this excessive heat throughout the country.

Do NOT leave your dogs out for any length of time...do NOT leave them in a car, even if you think the windoiws are open enough...Do NOT allow them to run excessively in this heat...If your dog is panting with his tongue hanging out the side, ( sideways tongue as we call it) get him inside into the a/c immediately...let him cool down and give him free acess to fresh clean cool ( not cold water)....

This heat is no joke...we are expecting about 110 to 115...topped with humidity...dogs feel the heat more than we do.....

Thanks for posting this warning Diane!

It is a tough time for dogs right now :(
You are so right. I had the boys in the truck with me...no ac...windows open the other day while we waited in a parking lot for hubby. Even like that it was unbelievably hot. I moved them quickly to a bench in the shade with a breeze and gave them lots of cold water. (We had brought it along.) I did it for me too. It was crazy.

Then we took them home. They were fine...never in danger as I was with them the whole time and as soon as we started driving there was a great, cooling breeze.

I think every dog owner should try sitting in a car under those conditions. I would NEVER have considered leaving them alone in the car in the first place, but this sure hit it home powerfully.

It really took no time at all for it to get dangerously hot.
I am glad to have multiple sets of keys for my truck. Bella can still go for rides with me and I just use my extra set leave the truck running with ac full blast and then lock her in while I run into the store to pick up the few things I need for dinner. She just hates to miss her rides and seems to really love the ac up close and personal like she gets in the truck.... only 12 inchs from her so she gets that "wind effect" in her ears. :excited:
That is a great idea with the two sets of keys! Something so simple, yet I never thought of it myself :headbang: Thanks!
Luckily, we're cooling off for a couple days. Jen sat out on the deck last night while Zoey and Caitlyn played chase in the backyard. I was fortunate enough to be underneath a Ford truck, helping a friend replace shocks... It was my turn to spread the karma and return a favor.

Temps and humidity are supposed to be back for the weekend though...timing is everything.

Vance
And then there are just plain STUPID people -

We've always done that when we go in to a place to eat after a dog show when it is hot. Last Saturday you should have seen the looks on peoples' faces when they went to get into their cars & could tell my van was running & hear the cooling fan kicking in & out of high gear! Sort of like one of those Candid Camera moments! We always ask for a table near a window so we can watch the van. The tail lights stay on so I know it is running.
