I am working on getting the Western Reserve OES Club to host a day at the Park in the Toledo, OH area or a Herding Instinct Test in the Nova, OH area possibly this fall. Does anyone here have interest in either? The Day at the Park would involve a pot luck, some dog games, costume contest and just hanging out. Leashes are required by the Toledo Metro Park system. The Herding Instinct Test Day would also involve a pot luck and of course Herding Instinct test, the cost of which is usually about $45. Both are in the beginning ideas stages, but before I proceed with planning efforts, I'd like to know if there would be any interest in either activity in this area of the country. Let me know you thoughts! I have included a poll, so please take the time to vote in addition to providing any comments you may have. Voting will be available for the next 14 days. Thanks! |

Too bad they can't be combined into one event. People could congregate and eat while others participate or watch the herding. I realize having other dogs near by could be distractive.......but speaking for myself, what fun to do both. |
We can still hang out and do a put luck at the herding event just to clarify, we just cant bring sheep to Toledo Metro Park |
Sunny - shouldn't your first poll be: how many of you are within comfortable driving distance of Toledo and might be interested in your local(ish) OES club sponsoring a get together? Then poll all three people to find out what they'd prefer to do...? Just kidding. Hoping that is indeed a central meeting point for that area. Consider throwing in grooming demos? Fun match? I know, I know - if Sheepiepalooza and Sheepiefest are anything to go by people are just happy to hang out and shoot the breeze, but I have a short attention span and see educational opportunities always. FYI, I voted even though I can't attend. Couldn't help myself Kristine |
The challenge is that we have to remain a certain distance from Western Reserve AND we have limited locations where we can have dogs etc. in the Ohio area. So these are some of the locations that are dog friendly so far. Additionally, it is a challenge for someone outside of the area to plan an event like this so if anyone has any other ideas for possible locations in OH...please let me know! Thanks! |
How about one of the lakes/beaches at one of many Ohio National Parks? We are planing a camping trip to Hueston national park for Laborday weekend. There is an off leash dog park and beach~ http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/overnightfacilities/pets/tabid/210/Default.aspx |

I can think of 1 for sure but not many others. And Nova is closer by about 90 minutes. I'd vote for the herding instinct test at Nova, mainly because I've been there a few time in the past for that very reason & I think Judi Bigham does a superb job of testing. But right now I have no one that needs tested |
Joanna- Thanks for the additional location ideas!!! |
