How hot is too hot?

Not sure is this is in the correct spot to post ...I know there was a recent post about a dog unfortunately getting heat stroke and passing away. His temp read 120 degrees...

My question is this...for outside temps, how how it too hot? What is a safe amount of time to let your dog out? My dogs are NEVER out without me supervising. But we are expecting a major heat wave here in the next few days and I alwasy worry that maybe they should not be out at all - except to pee and/or poop...

I like to let them out for "air" about an hour in the am and an hour in the pm...if I see them running around and tongues are hanging, they come into the central a/c...but if they are just laying around under the shaded tree, I'm not sure that's a problem???? There is alwasy fresh clean cold water available as well...

Here's what I posted on the other thread; I hate hot weather and if it's too hot for me, then it's too hot for a big hairy dog. I let Zoey out to do her business and let her in as soon as she wants. If I think she's been out there longer than I'd wanna be, I bring her in. She sleeps on the A/C vent and never seems to mind me bringing her in early.

When it's nicer out, she and I play chase or tug or what ever she want until we both start to slow down. She usually 'tells' me when she wants to go in. She usually goes up on the deck and just stares at me until I start to come up.

I'd say it come down to common sense and a gut feeling. That and not forgetting they're outside.

It really depends on the dogs. My youngest are idiots and I have to drag them in when it gets too hot - upper 90s - AND too cold - windchill warnings and such. But they're not such idiots they run around in the heat, and they have shade, so if they look comfortable I let them hang out for maybe 15-20 minutes. They'd probably be fine longer but I just get nervous.

My older dogs are more bothered by the heat and ask to be let right back in so that's a no brainer. I would just play it by ear.

We've been pretty lucky so far this summer, but have a week of hot weather coming up and I'm not thrilled about it.

I don't let mine play if it is hot...I don't mind if they lay out for a bit but, no running!!

I have a couple that get overheated FAST!
Raigin and Murph1 had to have a cool bath a couple of years back after a romp in the heat :(
