Privo makes good, comfortable, on-your-feet shoes. |
I wear nothing but Vans. They make a wide variety of skater shoes with different sole designs, other than their trademark 'waffle' print. If you need something more subdued, you can even custom order a pair online in nearly any color combo from something wild to something in all black or white. You can now order like four different styles of their famous shoes, (including the all time favorite slip-ons!) for the same retail price. The only drawback is it takes like 6 weeks to order, make and ship. Up side is no one will ever be wearing the same shoes. I have about 15 pairs including two pairs of the customs. And I'm on my feet as much as 13 hours a day and I'm 'big-boned' or as I like to say 'gravitationally challenged'. Check them out. http://shop.vans.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/topcategory_10001_10101 Vance |
I also wear Vans, and have always found them to be super comfortable. However, I think it really depends on the shape of your feet as I have a dog walker friend who cannot wear them or she has an achin' back! |
I've had numerous Vans as well, and they were good for me. My #1 "standing on cement" shoes though are Crocs or the Airwalk version. Hands down. |
Whatever you choose, they should have good arch support. |
I like New Balance if I have to be on my feet all day. When you can, move around a bit. No matter what kind of shoe you have, it will make the world of difference. Also, you should have a good gel mat to stand on, something to give some 'give' to the floor. I have been fortunate that my back hasn't given me problems (knock wood). My knees, that's a different matter. |
I had great luck with Merells, but my foot has widened too much for them....except the pairs I have stretched out. No newbies for me. I like the clogs/slipons as I've always had trouble with anything along my heel. I used to wear Birks all the time, can't anymore. My winter shoes are Helfinger wool clogs. Like Ron, arch support is mandatory.......to where orthotics are required. |
If you have a JC Penney near you, they carry some of the Vans that are more like tennis shoes or walking shoes that do have great arch support. I actually wear a pair from Penney's on a daily basis just because of that. I walk more than 2 miles a day on the typical day, so these work great for me. I do switch out to my slip-ons occasionally for conversation sake... Vance |
If you are allowed to wear clogs, then my vote is for Danskos. Pricey, but great support and comfort. |
Clarkes and Naturalizer for me. I am on my feet 9 hours a day and have to be able to run if there is an emergency. And my boss doesn't allow tennis shoes, clogs or sandals. |
I agree with Paula. Danskos are good. I also like my Sketchers and Rykas as well as Clarks.Privo is a higher end of Clarks. They are also good. |
I read all of your suggestions, thank you! I ended up buying a pair of Dr. Scholl's work shoes. Black, very nondescript. I have 30 days to return them if I don't like them. The scarest thing about this job is that I will have tuck my shirt in ! I'm so not a tucker. When did I get this old lady's body, and where did my body go? Life's not fair. But ya gotta deal the hand your dealt! I go into just to do paperwork, find out my schedule and get my "shirt". As crazy as all of this seems to me, it all actually seems pretty freeing! |
