Any suggestions on how to teach this. I bought a tonka truck, and am putting a treat under it so he'll push it. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |

My Phoebe is constantly poking and pushing things with her nose LOL Hmmmm maybe something for her to do. |
Tonks is great at touch, if its my hand she's touching. Since its one of our regular training activities, my hands smell like treats, and if I hold it up and say "Touch" she taps it easily with her nose. What I can't figure out is how to transfer it from the palm of my hand to objects. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! |

She'll pick it up quick! |
OUr trainer had us put a piece of blue painters tape on the palm of our hand get the dog to touch that, then transfer the tape to objects. Frankie picked it up pretty quick. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
The painters tape is a good idea. I did the same thing but I used a soft sink plug (stopper) that I bought for a couple of bucks in the supermarket. Tiggy knew touch my hand so I held the plug in the palm of my hand and asked her to touch that then I gradually lowered my hand to the ground asking her to touch. Pretty quickly I had my hand flat palm up on the ground with the plug resting on it. Then I just put the plug on the ground with my hand near it and now I can put the plug anywhere I like and ask for a touch. I can even toss it a few feet away and Tiggy will run and touch it with her nose. |
