It's not for an OES, but an Aussie...

I just got a call from my friend in DC that his friends are putting their Aussie down tomorrow morning. We are scrambling to find a rescue or someone to take her instead!

The situation is that she bit their 9 mo old baby while she was crawling towards her (or her toys or something like that).

I understand this is serious, but the dog is so sweet, great around other dogs, cats, people and has no history of being aggressive. She is a sweet 7yr old spade female.

My friend and I have been calling rescues, leaving messages, a lot of the no kill shelters here are not taking in new dogs and some of the aussie specific rescues we have contacted are closing/closed/or not responding, which makes sense since this is so last minute.

If you know anyone who can help please let me know soon!

Thank you!

Can she talk them into giving her more time to find rescue?
I would say the chances of getting a commitment by morning are pretty slim
Have you contacted ARPH?

I know a lot of times aussie rescues are full but, I am sure somebody can do something! :lmt:

Do you have pics??
Hi,

thank you for the response. I did call the Aussie helpline you ref'd. They just called me back and said they are not taking dogs in our area, and even if they weren't full, they could not take her because she did bite a child and that is a bite history.

My friend just texted me that the couple who own the aussie are putting her down tomorrow, period. I am so sad right now.

Thank you again.

Kara
How old is the dog????

If they can hold off I may be able to help but, there is no way tonight

I am sorry
The couple has decided they are keeping their appt with the vet tomorrow. They will not accept help...they are putting her down and that's that. =(

I am sorry, please let me know if they change their mind and I can try to help.
That's a real shame. We won't typically accept dogs with a bite history either, but will consider case by case when the bites involve children if not too severe as it's usually the parents' fault anyway for not protecting the dog. Good reminder not to let puppies go to families with young children. I am truly sorry for the dog. Many thanks to both of you for trying
