Yesterday, the guys took down a portion of the fence so they can get their equipment in and out, but would put it back up when they left so I could let the dogs out without fear of them getting loose. Yesterday after picking up the dogs and making sure the fence was back up I let the dogs into the back yard. One of the guys were still back there finishing up and the dogs went nuts barking. I heard the guy yell WHOA loudly and I turned to look and Gar was about two feet from the guy and barking ...Not a nice bark but a warning bark. I grabbed him and asked the guy to put his hand out so the dogs could sniff him, which he did and then they stood back a little and continued to bark....I took them in the house until he was gone. This morning when they came back, the guy walked right into the breezeway(dh gave them a key) without so much as a hi. Dogs went nuts. As I was walking to the door to get them I heard the guy yell WHOA again, had his arms in front of him and was backed up against the door. He said Gar had jumped on him and tried to bite him I don't have guard dogs...I do have barkers. I don't doubt the Gar jumped on him, he does that. I didn't see what happened but the fear in the guys eyes said he believed the dog was going to bite. I had told the guys I was going to be home today. I don't think I mentioned the dogs but would you walk into a strangers home where there are dogs and you know the homeowner is home and the dogs ARE barking without at least ringing the bell? I now know that my boys WILL protect me in my own home. Even if its just barking....or maybe biting. |

Not a smart man! Should have rung the bell or announced himself and asked you to contain the dogs. We've been having work done here off and on and I make sure the workers meet the dogs and I can judge my dogs' reaction to them. Mostly it is curious at first, then "yawn" them again? Now you know, there must be a barrier between the workers' passage and the dogs. If Gar bites, it's your fault no matter how stupid the worker acted. Sheepdogs can bite.....and do. Vets, groomers I've met over the years have related experiences. Anydog will bit, of course, ours are not different. |
Susan's right, Pam. Be very careful. Can you put Gar away somewhere during the day when they're going to be there? Crate maybe? Quite frankly as much for his (and your homeowner's insurance) sake as for the workmen. Kristine |
Brick's the same way. If a stranger comes into the house (especially a larger guy), he will bark to beat the band and jump. I usually put him outside or in the crate. |
