grrrr stupid stupid stupid police!

Police dog left in hot SUV outrages marina staff
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c ... hicle.html

There are so so many problems with the RCMP in British Columbia, the whole service needs a complete overhaul there. This is disgusting! Kudos to the marina staff for trying to do everything they could, they probably saved the dog's life, they couldn't just smash the SUV window, this is a police dog in distress, and I imagine would be very dangerous in that condition.

I hope at the very least, this officer gets removed from K-9 duties.

Two hours later, while the off duty RCMP dog handler was still out on the water, police arrived and left with the dog.

Const. Mitch Fiddick said it was okay to keep the dog in the vehicle in the parked in the sun on a hot day because it had special training.

"We work our dogs all the time in these kinds of temperatures — 25 degrees in the summertime. We work the dogs in 35 degrees," said Fiddick.

Umm... so what kind of special training can a dog have that will prevent it from succumbing to excessive heat? That officer had no idea whether the temperatures during the hours he was away would reach or exceed a dangerous level.

The off-duty officer left the windows of the SUV partially open, but Oerlemans said that was not enough to keep the vehicle cool.

"You could feel the heat coming out of the window. It was like a furnace," he said.

 to the marina staff!

It was mentioned that there's video footage...

It's also outrageous because just a few days earlier the RCMP in BC responded to a dog-in-distress who was locked in a car for 3 hours. That dog died.

Wow! 8O

I hope the locals get this guy's butt in trouble!

I did my little part and shared the story on my FB page....maybe a bunch of negative press will get the message out to them

While waiting for help, the group dragged a tarp over the car and started spraying it with cold water.

"I told them to try and hit the bucket [inside]. I didn't care whether they hurt the car," Seymonsbergen said.

Exactly what I thought I would have done in this situation too... sprayed inside the vehicle if a dog was in distress. 8)
The surveillance video may help to tell the story.
:cow: I hope some constable's arse is in a sling today. I suspect there will be a coverup though, just a reprimand and the dog will be returned to the handler.........afterall, so much money has been spent training this team, it would be poor money management to retrain.

Yeah, right, dog has been trained not to die from heat stroke. Hope the public keeps this story kicking around for awhile. The press and cops won't.
Too bad they wern
t locked in the car in that heat with no water etc. Because it costs sooooo much to get thes wonderful animals and train them, what is the price to replace and train another. So much "HEAD UP BUTT" Syndrome. I hope the media is well informed and this kind of situation is KEPT out to the public. This is animal cruelty AND abuse!!!! How do tax payers feel about their money being used in such a irresponsible way?!!!!! This kind of disregard fo animals
REALLY REALLY REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
REALLY MAD DOGMOM
I don't know about the wisdom of getting the inside of the car wet... the humidity increase could be devastating, unless you could keep a cold stream of water going over the dog itself.

But covering the car with a tarp and wetting the outside of the car was brilliant!!!

I guess there wasn't a cage in the car? I'm guessing they would have broken the front windows if there was. I still would have considered it, I'm sure they did too.

Bastard forgot about his dog. GRRRRRRRRR
In rereading this, I just get madder:

But marina staff who saw the incident say, of all people, the RCMP should know better

"There's a nice breeze blowing"..........in the car?? Dogs don't benefit from a nice breeze unless their feet are upright, they don't sweat like humans, just the feet and the heat from lungs.

"We work the dogs in 35 degrees" OK, that's 95 degrees F, dogs can work in that for short periods, but chances are the temp inside that hot car was closer to 140 degrees or 60C.

"Two hours later, while the off duty RCMP dog handler was still out on the water, police arrived and left with the dog." They called the wrong people! RSPCA should have been called, newsmedia, anybody but the cops who took 2 hours and covered up the story.

The dog is OK? Thanks to people who had more sense than the RCMP in total!

What is it with cop brains? Too much macho??http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2008691/Sergeant-Ian-Craven-suicide-bid-police-dogs-die-heat-car.html

He didn't forget about the dog when he parked the SUV with the dog in it and left the windows open. No fact is he just didn't care! Typical dumb ass RCMP cop.

Well let's hope this fellow didn't suffer any permanent brain damage because of this. It could take quite a while to be sure that he really is free of that sort of latent injury.

Cop brains, well that is another story!! Given my brother's experience with cops when his ex made false claims of physical abuse as well as mine both here over the dogs and my expereince with cops in the reserve unit some years ago I have to conclude that cops are recruited from a pretty low common denominator. Yes they certainly have "too much macho" and are far too self important for anyone's good. Damn who will protect us from the so called "protecters" when we are not allowed to do so for ourselves????

Carl
I think we know who has the brain damage!!!
