Clostridium perfringens....We never have had it, but we vaccinate the sheep for it! (or because we vaccinate, we've never had it ) That is the sole extent of my working knowledge, sorry. I suppose I could look it up |
I looked it up in terms of what the symptoms are in dogs, I was just wondering if it was the kind of thing that shut down a farm for a long time. |
Commonly called overeating disease - and here's a decent article from the sheep viewpoint. Good info, horrible green type! http://ag.ansc.purdue.edu/sheep/ansc442 ... sheep2.htm What links did you find for dogs - that's a new one to me...interesting, in a bad way |
Seems like a strange place to have info on dog illnesses, but this was the best I found: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/dog/hea ... ridium.php |
Good site - but yes, not my 1st thought of sites that would have dog info! The related c-diff is quite common in humans...common enough it is routinely checked for humans with persistent diarrhea. I think the perfringens is more a concern w/ home canning-gone-wrong...if I remember correctly. And if you buy dented canned goods. Hence the food illness risk. How are their sheep doing? They really must have had some outbreak if the dogs are getting sick too. Are they sure it's from the farm? (as the article states the meat dogs may eat and get it as well) Makes me glad I don't have sheep poop eating dogs, I would hate to go to a place w/ a sick flock and have my dogs bring it home. |
I am happy that Mady never eats the sheep poop. She is too busy looking at the sheep to notice the poop. |
