Obedience - Harry didn't get the memo

This is the long DOWN portion of Open Obedience at the trial today........ what is wrong with this picture?

Why is it always my "child"?

As Val and I noted "What dog sits during a down?" Seriously?

We had already NQ'd today as he failed to retreive on the flat when I told him "get it". I had to tell him a second time.

You would think after all this time of competing with this dog I would learn not to get my hopes up. We were going for our title leg of course. :(

Oh Harry...maybe you're just a pretty face

Judi...Harry is training you on patience and humility. He's tough, but you seem to be catching on :D
Judi: It happens to the best of us. 2 days in a row, José screwed up his recall. We'd have had his title. But the 1st day he broke his stay before I got to the other side of the room. The 2nd day he held his stay, came when called to front. sat, & when he finished he walked around me 2 times & then headed for the gate!!!!!!! The judge told me we'd have qualified had he not decided it was time to leave the ring....even if he didn't sit on his finish! ARGHHHHHH! So here we are, several months later, rehabbing from TPLO surgery & at the end of this month allowed to start training again. So don't give up hope. He will do it right for you sooner than later.
Oh Harry!!! :lmt:

They really do the craziest things.....
Harry---You are still the most obedient dog we know

:hearts: Jenn and Millie
Oh..... I think I love Harry even more if that's possible.
He makes me laugh everytime!!!!!!!
Why don't you train him to work for the circus instead???
AH....HEM~~~~~

For everyone's information....and what Judi FORGOT to mention...is that...

Harry did 'down' again.....

(I personally think that Harry hears a different drummer, but he tries to conform, in his own way. Harry knows that he must lay on the long down...and he DID.....

HE WAS IN A DOWN STAY
, when Judi left the ring.....

AND

HE WAS IN A DOWN STAY, when Judi walked back into the ring....

I just don't see the problem here~~~~

TIGGY!!!
That could be a photo of Tiggy waiting for me.
She is in a down when I leave and she lies down when I come back, and she is happy that she can keep her eye on me and make sure I don't get into any trouble.
'
Around here it's called periscope head UP! I think she thinks she can see further when she sits up nice and tall.

Oh Joannna, there is a lot of talk about the circus around here. I expect to find a note one day telling me he "ran away to the circus" where he can get paid for his antics.

And he makes us laugh too because well........ why do the normal dog failures? That wouldn't be our Harry.... you have to think outside the box when it comes to him.

Honestly. Judi - it's not as uncommon as you think. My obedience instructor's youngest springer went through a period of doing just this in Open, and my agility instructor's youngest Terv would pop up into a stand. Stays are never a given. At least he didn't tour the place or visit with any of the other dogs, the big no-nos.

The fact that he went back down again before you returned is the interesting part. I wonder if he has an "oh *** " moment?

He'll get it next time.

Yeah, and that's a really good sign. That he corrected himself, I mean.

You get unnerved about him sitting during the down? How about Melody? We had qualified up to the point of the long sit & long down. We went into the ring for the sit. I figured the down would be our hard thing as it is 3 minutes in novice. I think "Melody can sit for 1 minute". I notice as we are called into the ring "in catalog order" that the dog in front of us is an extremely nervous chihuahua. Yep that's right. Melody had toys bigger than this thing! And it had already done bad enough that it wasn't going to qualify but was completing the sit & down. The entire time going into the ring & up until leaving her I am mentally sending her vibes to "ignore the live toy"! She did her best. That was until the chihuahua decided to make a mad dash for it's handler. Well, Melody kicked into gear, went after the chihuahua & herded it back to the sit line & completed her sit. Talk about being the intertainment for the day 8O. Thank goodness it was at the beginning of our obedience career ......1st time in the ring. We worked on proofing that situation & she went on to title within her next 4 times in the ring.

I completely agree with this statement. I really needed a smile this morning and trust Mr. Harrington to be the one to make me smile!

Yes--I can't help it--he just makes me smile! :D
I'm so sorry, you and Harry are very dear to me. But I laughed and laughed when I saw your photo. I didn't even have to read your post to know what Harry had done. Thanks for that- I needed a good hearty chuckle!
^^^^^^^^^^^

It's okay Allison. I find it funny too although I am still concerned about correcting it without making him anxious over the long sits and downs.

The humor of it inspired my son to take the picture and I am glad he did.
I laughed really hard too!!!

Harry is an awesome dog! :wag:
