Help! - Sick doggie....

Hi all,

Any advice on a dog whose bottom is acting like a cappacino machine? My poor Woof has diahorrea, and we've been to the vet, who told us to keep him off food for 24 hours and then feed him plain potatoes / chicken before weaning him back onto his normal dry food.

A week later however, he's unwell again! What are the usual causes of this problem? We went on holiday recently and he was fine using all the same food and treats....we've stopped him eating his own waste (which he'd do occasionally) and rooting in the waste bin, but he's still unwell.

Please help!

Sheepies will get that problem, and here in the states there's a food called i/d that the vets frequently prescribe for runny pooches.

If it persists and recurs as sounds like you might be experiencing, all I can do is tell you that from our experience with our dog, he had frequent bacterial overgrowths that caused this problem (some sort of lab test by the vet using the dog's problem can confirm...).

The solution for the Jakester was an antibiotic.

THERE MAY BE A HUNDRED OTHER CAUSES, this is just one that I happen to know about.

In the meantime, keep him on the tile :(

Good luck
Get your dog to the vet. If this recurs, it could be a lot of things, some things (colitis, for example) can only be treated by medication.

Good luck.

If you have carpets, invest in a steamer :-)

I had trouble with my OES when she was 8-10 months old. I went to the vet who told me to with hold food for 24 hours. When that didn't work he put her on a rice and cottaege cheese diet for a couple days. That didn't work and we tried a meat and vegetable diet. Thatdidn't work. I switched vets. This vet through it may be a food allergy (even through he through she was to young to experience this) and perscribe an IVD diet with red tail dear and potato. That did the trick. I found a commerical duck and potato food that is working wonderfully. Now I am super careful about what she eats. Even her treats are duck and potato and she is doing great.

Good luck
Jess
