We have an almost 2 year old neutered male sheepdog named Sully. His behavior is not perfect, but we all have adjusted to each other's quirks and he is mostly a very good boy. The problem that has become more and more difficult, and harder to live with, is that he goes nuts every time I or my daughters leave the house. When my husband leaves, who Sully adores but doesn't consider to be his charge, he doesn't make a peep, only looks longingly at him in case there's a chance of a walk in the woods. But, when the girls and I leave, he barks like mad and even occasionally nips my bag and rushes at the door to try and prevent us from leaving. I've tried putting him on a sit/stay command away from the door, but at the very last moment he goes berserk anyway. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Kate |

We had the same problem with Bentley and Zoey. Bentley never did this until after we got Zoey and then the both did it together. They'd go nuts if I left, or if Jen and I left. But if Jen left with out me, they'd just stare out the window at her. However, after Bentley's passing, Zoey hasn't done it once. So we have to say it was a behavior that Bentley started. Now that Zoey is alone and doesn't do it, we're not sure why he did it. We think it might have been a warning to anyone outside that I was coming and he was now in charge of the house. I'm thinking it's some kind of separation anxiety. I'll bet Victoria Stillwell could correct this... I know I'd let her try... Vance |
