We just brought home our first dog (an 8 week old, OES). He is a very happy and friendly puppy and his favourite foods seem to be rocks, gravel and woodchips. We are pretty good about keeping him away from our gravel driveway, but he still eats lots of grass. Each day he has a minute or so of throwing up and goes back to his happy self. It's a fairly small amount and I assume it's because of the grass. It's a dark green colour (his normal food is brown). Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? Should I be concerned? |

Yes, I would be very concerned. Has the puppy been to the Vet for a check-up? If not I would take it there immediately! Congrats on your new sheepdog puppy!! |
Grass is eaten to purge the stomach. I'd be afraid gravel or wood chips are down there. You must keep him away from the bad stuff, correcting the behavior by shoving a good play toy in the mouth immediately after removing the bad. Puppies, like children, discover the world through their mouths. It is difficult to monitor their every move, better to put them in a safe location where bad things are not available. Puppies are tough, in the wild they probably nibbled on rock and bark as well. If there is any sign of distress, immediately get to the vet!! don't wait hours, go immediately. In the mean time, monitor what goes in and what comes out the back end. |
congrats on your new baby. He shouldn't really be being sick, trouble is they can dehydrate so quickly. Is he due for a vet visit for his first jab? Might be a good idea to find a vet in any case and ask their advice.... |
