His face itches or he's wiping his face after eating/drinking. I had to start putting towels, sheets, etc over the cushions and the front of the furniture. Check his eyes to make sure his lashes aren't bent toward the eye or other eye irritation, guy might be trying to clear his vision. If there's a top knot, loosen it a bit. |
Good luck!!!! It annoys me too ...although thankfully the cushions don't actually come off or get effected (just the act itself is irritating to me). We haven't been able to do anything other than yell her name. She stops right away. ...mostly does it after she's been groomed and/or taken a bath!!! Hope you're doing well barney1 aka stranger now. |
Our first sheepie, Lucy, would always move the cushions/the couch/and the pillows.... I just learned to live with it and when she would go to her grandparents house, they would just remove the pillows from the couch since they knew she would push them off anyway.... We just chalked it up to sheepie antics.... and found a lot of humor in it. It was something she just did and she probably did it for most of her 15 years of life! |
you want (no you don't) to see my sofa. If you sit on the floor and look at the front of the sofas you can see a dirty line where the dogs rub. I have a steamer but I don't think to use it. Until I am sitting on the floor and see the dirty mark, and then I forget again, until I.....you get the picture? |
This is where my fitted couch covers are so handy - the whole thing goes in the washer! My OES are never the culprits - Simon the basset is the offender here. |
Butch rubs his face along the front of the cushions but since I've cleaned up basset drool for many years I really don't worry too much about it. I do wash the cushions off and wait to do it again. |
My second OES Max did this also. After every meal he would head to his couch to wipe his face. I have my couch and the couch in front of the window is the dogs couch. I bought a king size sheet to keep on the dog couch and wash as needed. Cindy |
You people are NO help! lol Yeah, he does it occasionally after eating, but it's more of an itch reliever I think than food/water wiper maneuver. And given his history of the itchies it makes sense, but it doesn't make it any less ANNOYING! UGH! Luckily our couches are chocolate colored, so there's no mark left that we can see. It's more of the fact that he won't stop when I ask him to, even if I ask him nicely. And the other day my daughter was sitting on the couch watching tv and Barney came through and did it and partially knocked the cushions off and I couldn't even see my daughter anymore...she had fallen deep into the couch and couldn't get out She said mommy help! Barney you need to go to TIME. OUT!! |
hahahahaha.... hopefully you listened to her and gave barney the time out |
Violet like to run her head along my blanket on my bed, along the side. So I change the blankets and sheets everother day. She used to do the couch, now she does the bed. |
Zoey does this and we figured out that it was an early-warning system to clean her ears. We noticed that if we let her weekly ear cleaning slip by a day or so, the couch caught the wrath. So now we watch our calendar more carefully and the couch stays cleaner and the cushions in place. Check Barney's ears... Vance |
Bailey goes after the sofa cushions, moves one of the livingroom chairs during her rubbing. But her favorite thing to rub her face on is the towel after my husband showers. She will come running when she hears the water turn off. |

mine too! no advice I don't care anymore. You can yell out "I can't have nothin'!" Just like my Ma with us. |

Cindy this brings back memories my daytona did it too every time she ate and drank and when she when into the yucky pond boy i forgot 15 yrs of that |
Ru does it after eating or drinking, I just grab a towel & wipe his face then he seems happier & doesn't do it. |
Rudie does this everytime he's happy. It was one of the first things he did to show his happiness, so we think it's endearing, even though our couches are disgusting |
With Archie it's his way of letting us know he has little matts starting in his facial fuzz, a bit of attention with the brush and stripping out the undercoat a little normally puts a stop to it for about a month. |
ah memories again. listen up furkids, there are numerous couches in the house, this one is your designated couch. ok, got it? oh yes daddy dearest!!!! NOT!!!!!!!!!!! |
Kenz does this with the settee custons when he's happy - just before he lies on his back and does the bicycle thing with all four legs! He's mad!! Nik |
This topic made me really laugh as our Celyn used to do this all her life. Plus she loved rubbing her entire body against any white painted walls she could find. Only white walls though where it would show! Just part of their sense of humour me thinks |
Sunny used to do this on our long hallway wall. She'd rub her face and body on it all the way down, actually making "squeaky sneakers on basketball court" noises with her lips. Well, we all know how stained their fur gets from their saliva, so you can imagine how mucky and gross the wall was getting. So I really got on her case after one particularly annoying wall washing episode (best workout of my life!). I had recently become a stay at home mom again, and was basically home all the time when she would do it, so simply due to never letting her get any satisfaction from it, I sorta got her to stop doing it. BUT...... she didn't actually stop, she just found a new spot! I just realized this morning, that one of her new little routines is just a manifestation of the wall smear. She goes to the front door, and just wipes her face to-and-fro, then turns around and does the other side, then lies down on the front rug and goes CRAZY rubbing her head and face all over it. It's a little better though, the door is a smaller spot to clean, and the rug goes in the washer. It's a small victory for the uprights, but a victory nonetheless. |
