Millie has high cholesterol

Hi everyone. I am a first time oes mommy and Millie is my first female dog. Millie is nine months old and is going through her first heat cycle. She has been bleeding now for 20 days and started vomiting last night while we were sleeping. She had another couple of vomiting episodes this morning so I took her to the vet.

He x-rayed her stomach and ran a blood test. The x-rays were all normal :clappurple: and the blood test showed no infection or problems with any organs. It did however show that she has high cholesterol :twitch: He mentioned it but did not seem concerned. Should I be? Has anyone else experienced this?

I have never heard of vomiting while going through a heat cycle.I do not think that is the norm.
Did the vet take a blood sample? Did the vet suggest a low fat diet along with a fish oil supplement with omega 3 fatty acids?
Just some thoughts that come to my mind.

All I know about cholesterol in dogs is my vet noting when I asked about it: "it's not significant in dogs the way it is in humans".

You did the right thing, taking her to the vet, and the vet looked for the right kind of things. Hopefully the vomiting is just something completely unrelated and fleeting, but do keep an eye on her going forward and if she seems at all lethargic or off, it's worth a re-check, if only to have your vet tell you, as mine once did: "your dog is disugustingly normal"

Chances are Robin and I were both thinking uterine infection. I've never heard it happen in a bitch that young, and I really doubt she's at risk, and, besides, your vet has already ruled that out. But it's one of those scary things you always have to keep in the back of your mind with an intact bitch, and especially an older one.

20 up to even 24 days is pretty normal for my youngest. Previous generations were not in season that long, but it varies a lot. It is long for what is almost certainly a first season, and she's a bit young compared to the lines I'm used to. But, again, every bitch is different.

My vet did not suggest any changes in diet or supplements, but I will ask him about it. I guess if he is not overly concerned then I shouldn't be. I just never thought at nine months of age she could have high cholesterol.

I am relieved that she has no infections, and it is good to know that other dogs also have longer than normal bleeding. Everyone tells you seven to fourteen days...and tomorrow will be 21 days. I was starting to feel like she may have a problem.

Hopefully she will be back to her normal silly self soon. I really miss taking her on walks, to the kids sporting events and all of our normal daily errands.

Thanks for your supportive and helpful responses
