Note to self: close freezer door before bed

or you will wake up to starting-to-defrost food and spend the morning having an anxiety attack that you will need a new refrigerator because you are certain that it has died.

I closed the door and everything is now frozen and cold again. D'OH!

Do you remember leaving it open, or did you sleep walk and sleep eat?
Baaad Paula....baaad!

Whew you had me worried there that the rest of the story was going to be about some furkid getting in the fridge/freezer and eating everything on site. Okay I mentioned that as it could have been worse! I do sympathize with the whole situation however and chances are if the food was not totally defrosted it's still okay.

Whaddya I know? I cleaned my freezer yesterday and I must have a years supply of frozen marrow bones..but very little food.

Hugs to you
Marianne
Well, good thing you noticed it...eventually!

Did you have to take everything out and defrost??
Ron, sometimes I do get up in the middle of the night for a cookie, nothing frozen. And I am totally awake when I do it. My sister does it, too. Wonder if it's genetic? Dawn, I did not have to defrost anything. I'm not a fanatical housekeeper--I just let the water refreeze!
Do you have the french style refrig? I know I have done that a few times 8O ...Sometimes it feels like you closed the door but it wasn;t closed completely. On the French style refrigs, a door ajar is hardly noticable...I now close and recheck a million times...As if I wasn't obsessive complusive already

LOL...Marty and I sometimes pass eachother in the kitchen in the middle of the night at snack time
Now that is funny Kathy!
Glad the food was saved with the rising costs.
Robin
As long as there are still ice crystals on the food, you can re-freeze. I learned that years ago from my mom AND mom's don't lie.
This happens to me at least once every few months and every time I go through the same anxiety attacks you do. Mine usually occur because one of the dogs stops the door with his head while I turn around to make the food that I got out and the door never quite shuts. It happens a lot more with our deep freezer because it's in the basement and I never notice that it hasn't actually closed since I'm not passing it all the time. Unlike all of you, though, I have no concerns about the thaw. If it still feels moderately cool, I refreeze and eat. I'd probably refreeze it even if it were warm.
