OOOEEEE No siree...don't know what it is and NOOOOO did not know it was going. I guess I have an honest face because he believed me. Seems there's a law or something that says if I traded the car knowing about this but not reporting it that they can come back at me and get the money it would cost to replace it. On the other side dh's daughter is mad because we should have sold her the Xterra(she can't afford it). Can you imagine the uproar that would have caused to have the head gasket go not long after??? |

I can just picture your face!! Kind of like a sheepie trying to look innocent after eating a roll of toilet paper sort of look! |
I had the head gasket go on my POS Buick Skylark. I spent about $700 to get it fixed (9 years ago) and about a year later the check engine light came on. Took it to the shop and the guy said "I think the head gasket is going again." That afternoon I drove it to the Honda dealership, traded it in and got a Civic. Your daughter is lucky you didn't sell the Xterra to her. |
I don't know the law in WI, but I wouldn't think a dealer could do that. Think about all the crap people trade in. They could get rich just going after the folks that traded a car that had something wrong with it. And a head gasket doesn't have any intermediate states of good or bad. When he says the head gasket was going, he doesn't know what he's talking about. It either works the way it should or it doesn't work the way it should. Good or bad. That's all. I've found that the majority of car salespeople not only know nothing about cars but know very little about life in general. I don't know where they find these people. |
We have a very good lemon law in WI, at least for now we do. We traded our older suburban in on a newer one. We had the dealers statement that all systems were in good working order. They were not, took it back a couple of times and they'd do a little tweek and say it was fixed, but of course they weren't. We did not get any satisfaction so Carl contacted the state, didn't take them long to contact the dealer and everything was taken care of plus we got money back for a repair that we'd paid for. |
Hi, I know I guess there's a reason why they say never sell items to friends/family because if something goes wrong they'll spend the rest of their days blaming you. Even if you had no knowledge of it prior as in your case. I know when you sell your house you have to tick off various things regarding previous water damage, or anything else that was wrong and you aren't supposed to lie about it as the next homeowner can then turn around and sue you for it. Must be that the law regarding cars is the same in your area. I'd say it was your lucky day overall. Marianne |
Indeed, Marianne! Even if you see the house "as is" you are still required to disclose all the problems. |
