http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19914266 All animals at this shelter MAY become IN DANGER OF EUTHANASIA 5 days after it arrives as a stray, or immediately after it arrives as an owner surrender because THE SHELTER IS BADLY OVERCROWDED WITH ANIMALS. They don't get enough adopters, don't have enough cages for all the animals, and are required by law to continue taking in any animals the public brings them. They are short staffed because they are government funded and people tend to vote for education as a priority over animal care, so they dont always have enough employees or volunteers to answer the phones, and when they do, hold times can be long. Please don't give up on this animal in need!!!!! If you are able to reach the shelter's call center, they can give you the updated availability of the animal. If it is available, you should ask to be transferred directly to the Downey shelter itself. Then ask them to note on the animals record your name, phone number, and when you are coming to meet the dog, in hopes they will keep it alive until your arrival. Then PLEASE VISIT THE SHELTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN PERSON. ***DOWNEY ANIMAL SHELTER*** 11258 South Garfield Avenue, Downey, CA 90242 (562) 940-6898 All animals at this shelter MAY become IN DANGER OF EUTHANASIA 5 days after it arrives as a stray, or immediately after it arrives as an owner surrender because THE SHELTER IS BADLY OVERCROWDED WITH ANIMALS. Thanks Shari! I sent it on to Jane with CA OES Rescue. I will let you all know if I hear anything |
I loath, hate and despise kill shelters!! I certainly hope CA OES Rescue can get him out. Otherwise, just asking, fly to Minnesota? Price to get here? He could be placed in Rescue here either MOESR or MARS. I'm curious. He looks so sad and cute. Nancy |
I totally understand where you're coming from! But... it's probably around $500 to fly him out. The cost of the flight itself, the cost of a large crate, the dog would have to be vetted and have a health certificate within 10 days of flying, someone at the CA end who is willing to do all this along with wait at the airport until he flies out in case his flight is cancelled due to temperature restrictions. Someone at the MN end to pick him up. Plus all the stress on the dog. Jane with OES Rescue of CA has always been simply wonderful at checking into dogs needing help in her neck of the woods. If he is unable to enter her rescue, there may be other rescues much closer that would take him. |
I heard back from Jane in CA and he is on Hold at the shelter right now but, they are on him when he is available to the public!!! I know Jane will follow up on him!!!! |
Thank goodness! |
