Hi , i just wanted to express my concerns of vaccinations of our dogs ,my late wife and i raised and showed oes in uk and canada for 35 years !!!, i have lost the last three dogs , to cancer !! , i am still broken hearted over the recent loss (2 months ago ) of alfie a canadian champion and beautiful dog , i just want to let everybody know my opinons regarding these losses , as i have travelled a lot , in the 7 years since the loss of my wife .Alfie was kenneled from time to time , but in the last three years he went to mexico with me , by car, and we were there four 4 months , to do this amount of travelling , the dog had to have his shots every year , and going to mexico requires the use of the product called revolution !! , i firmly believe this , along with TO MANY UNNEEDED VACCINATIONS, was the cause of his cancer !! ALFIE ONLY MADE 10 YEARS , not long enough!!. Anyway just three weeks before leaving a lump the size of a tennis ball came up on his neck , it was needle biopsied and cancer cells and rbcs were found i declined surgery , at his age and decided to go for quality of life , anyway we made it back from mexico , the tumor had now grown to the size of a large baseball and Alfie was in pain , the vet tol me as soon as it breaks open i would have to call it , which i did on april 21 !! this was my last O.E.S. , SO PLEASE PEOPLE , do not go for all the advise on shots and flea prevention , sincerly devasted owner ,Dave. ps if anybody would like pics of the GROTESQUE tumor on my dog i would post them . |
So sorry to hear about Alfie -- take comfort in knowing that you loved him and he knew he was loved. |
I am very sorry about Alfie I also could not agree with you more |
I have an ongoing battle with my vet re: vaccinations. By law rabies every three years, beyond that I will not let my old guys get anything else! I used to be very consistent in vaxing them but have lost too many to cancer. I don't do titers as the dogs are not going to dog parks, dog shows, etc. http://www.doglogic.com/vaccination.htm |
My vet, I just noticed, no longer bothers to list anything but rabies and heart worm testing reminders for any of my dogs over age...4? I love my vet And I'm very sorry about Alfie. Kristine |
Nice vet There have probably been many Alfies......maybe even my own. It is truly sad vets do not question what was taught to them years ago. New research brings new protocol.........it just takes someone with guts to do the study and if there is a better way, then convince the majority. |

It's common for them to only live to that range or about 12. Correlation does not mean causation. Just because your dog got cancer doesn't mean it's a vaccination or flea med that caused it. I've had 9 dogs - none of them died of cancer, all had regular vaccinations and occasional use of flea products, although not all the time. Leave the vaccination schedule to those that have studied veterinary medicine their whole lives. Vets are not out to kill all our dogs early to make a few dollars. That's a little too much conspiracy theory for me. If you live long enough, you'll get cancer, it's just a fact of life. It can just be part of our genetic destiny or something in the environment. Either way there is never a way to prove why it happens. Vaccinations are used to prevent disease, they do not cause cancer, period. Too many dogs getting parvo and kennel cough out there because people are paranoid about vaccinations now. It's a shame. |
