You all are going to be so jealous of me...

cuz I'm having a colonoscopy on Thursday. :yay: :yay:

I don't mind the prep, but I can't have solid food on Wednesday and I am convinced I am going to starve to death. I can have Jell-O (but not red), clear broth (barf) and 7-Up and tea and coffee. And Popsicles. And with my luck, I won't even lose weight.

What should I have for my first meal on Thursday???????

Cheese & rice?
Breakfast??

Sorry you have to do this. I have some prep advice for you. If anyone is reading this around mealtime, you might want to close your eyes a little.

If you have any issues with sensitivity in the rear area, feel free to use Vaseline to coat things before things get running, and repeat during if necessary.

You'll want to take some juice and crackers/cookies as your first calories as you're becoming more aware. I don't think omyon loaf would be a great idea, but you can probably eat just about anything you'd like.

Have an easy test with great results!
Hahaha aha
Been there done that!

My first meal was great pancakes at cracker barrel. Then home to sleep

Good luck!
Having colon cancer in my family - my Mom had it and had surgery and had wear a colonostomy bag - this is a test that can save your life! I've had many. The prep is worse than the test itself...Had my Mom had a colonscopy when she was supposed to, she would not have had to endure this disease...

Don't worry...the prep stinks but the test itself is a piece of cake...and for a meal afterwards...I'm thinking PIZZA!

And no, you won't starve to death...Good luck!
Yes the prep was no fun but the test was no problem. It was a nice nap!...lol I went to the Golden Corral Buffet and ate whatever I wanted!

Eat a whole stick of butter the night before... Doctors LOVE that.

Seriously, good luck,
Vance
The clear diet before really is helpful. When hubby had his, his first meal afterwards was waffles, I think, at a nearby place that serves breakfast until 2....

It was a piece of cake for him, except for the prep. I really need to schedule mine but the prep is really what is making me wait: I hate ingesting large volumes of anything at all..... But I know I must. Sometime this summer, if things slow down...
DH went across the street to McDonalds and had big burger, fries and shake. Me, I continued to be barfy for hours after, so probably liquids.
I'm seconding whoever said pancakes or waffles for a nice post-cleansing meal. Are you near a Walker Brother's?

For those of you putting off a colonoscopy, here's a story for you. Our friend turned 50 years old in Feb. and his very smart wife told him it was time for a full physical, and a routine colonoscopy. They found a small mass, and it turned out to be a rare form of cancer (carcinoid), which is resistant to radiation and chemo. It is similar to ovarian cancer, as by the time someone is showing symptoms, it is usually too late. :( The routine colonoscopy saved his life. He had surgery to remove the tumor two weeks ago and because further scans showed it hadn't spread, he is considered cured.

So Paula, good for you! And for those who have been putting it off, don't wait any longer.

No Way! You are having one? I am jealous.

On second thought perhaps not, but I admire you greatly and as many of the other posters suggested it really can save your life.

You take care of yourself and treat yourself to some yummy goodie after the fact Paula. Lots of well wishes being sent your way!

:hearts: Marianne
Hope you had a good meal this evening. With all the liquid, you may not even be hungry....  yeah right. You can drink as much liquid as you want, until you slosh.

As Ron said, Vaseline!!
Like everyone said it's not bad. The prep is the worst having to be near a bathroom all the time. Mine were done when I was 17 and 24 so I was a weak annoying kid and it isn't horrendous.

My first meal wasn't that exciting. I wasn't looking forward to it for some reason. I think I was just groggy.
Like everyone else said it's the prep thats the unpleasant part. I had one a couple of years ago. Colon cancer runs in my family. Hopefully your appt is early in the morning. My appt was at 2 in the afternoon. I thought for sure I was going to starve to death.

I had Zingermans Deli afterwards. A huge turkey reuben.

Good luck.

Well, I noticed Paula hasn't been on today...hoping all is okay and she is just getting "prepped"...Good Luck Paula...
I've had three colonoscopys, and always I have a huge specialty breakfast biscuit afterward. Pepperoni, melted cheese and hashbrowns on a homemade biscuit. Yum, doesn't get better than that, and you've earned it. I never touch those otherwise, kinda like an "attagirl".
I work in a recovery room and wake patients after surgeries, including colonoscopy. They are always amazed that it's over. So easy...hope you have a good report.
I've had two this year, and cancelled my third one as I was feeling under the weather. I've yet to re-schedule-- you've inspired me to call my doctor... soon-ish.
My dad's last colonoscopy caught rectal cancer and he's having surgery for it tomorrow. So i'm proud of you for going through the unpleasantness to get the test done! It can save your life :clappurple:
So far I have not died from hunger, but it's only noon on the day before the procedure. I've had Jell-O, 2 Popsicles and green tea.
hah, that is great.....maybe go out jogging, as long as you are being so healthful.... :sidestep:

....couldn't resist....good luck! :D
Hope everything comes out okay in the end, Paula.

It's not quite as bad as people say and it's well worth the inconvenience and discomfort to screen out potential problems. My MIL died of colon cancer because she was too stubborn to have screening done. Good for you for doing the right thing. :go:
So, how did you make out and what did you finally end up eating after????
I did not die from hunger. The prep was not bad at all. I held my nose when drinking the CoLyte but I did taste it once or twice and it wasn't horrible. Very salty.

The scope went fine. Being sedated is wonderful--just like a cozy nap. No polyps were found. We stopped at Panera after and I had a half a steak panini. I ate half of that at the restaurant then ate the other half about an hour later. I'm trying to tell myself that since I lived without eating yesterday, I do not have to make up for it today.

So a public service blurb--colonoscopies are not scary. Get one if there is a history of colon cancer in your family, or if you are of screening age.
YAY!!!

I've been waiting to cheer you on:

:go: Go Paula! :go: Go Paula! :go: go, Go, GO!
Very good news!! :D :D

Glad to hear it all went well.....
  :clappurple: YAY :ghug:
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:  :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
Good job Paula!!!!!

I have had a few myself and like you the big focus is always on the meal to follow.

The last time I scheduled mine on the same day as my moms. We made my dad the designated driver that way Tim didn't have to take off work.
Paula. Happy hear all is ok.
