The Thunder Shirt???

I just purchased this aid to help Heart with thunder and the upcoming fireworks. It was not cheap, but there is a 45 day money back guarentee in case it doesn't help.

I know someone bought one at Sheepiepalooza at one of the pet shops we visited..With all the Chaos, I can't remember who it was???

If anyone has tried this, please let me know if you think it helped. I am very curious to see if I am the only one who will try ANYTHING to get Heart NOT to run to the bathroom when she hears BOOMS!!!!!

Thanks.....

Pam and Randy got it.

My Samoyed friend Helen has one and she has great results w/ it, also another Samoyed person as well.
I never heard of it. Gigi is very bad with thunder and fireworks.
Where can get it?
Save your money and just buy a child's t-shirt that fits the dog's chest snugly. It will make the dog feel like someone is hugging them. We had a 2T shirt for our Cocker and it worked GREAT! An a e bandage will work in a pinch too. Just make sure whatever you use isn't so tight that it's uncomfortable.
We have one- Hank is very excitable and emotional. It helps him focus, we use it for training mostly- so he's less ADD.

Hank isn't so much afraid of fireworks- He wants to attack them! I think he thinks he's saving us from the fireworks.
This will be the first 4th of July with it- so only time will tell.
We never had a problem with thunderstorms until last year when there were some
illegal fireworks shot off the next street over. Scared the heck out of Panda.

We had a few storms roll through this spring and Panda was really scared. When she's
stressed by them, she'll pant... sometimes lie down but always her head up, sometimes
pace. Her heart is just a beatin'. During one storm, I was grooming Kobuck so I brought
her into the room and she laid on his Kuranda bed while we finished. I ordered the
Thundershirt the next day.

She's worn it twice. We need a few more thunderstorms to really test it out. I've also
been playing thunderstorm's on YouTube at different times... she would startle when
she heard them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlOJr1csOR4 She's sleeping on the
floor about 8 feet from me and hasn't even lifted her head.

This is her first time with her Thundershirt...

The last two thunderstorms that rolled through were in the early morning hours. I
woke up hearing the thunder and was ready to get out of bed to get her TS. I looked
over and she either simply slept through it, it didn't register to her what it was or maybe
she's doing a better? I'll have to see what she does during a storm where she's up and
about.
Jaci...does the shirt seem comfortable enough for a dog to wear all day?

Bert has recently developed a fear of amplified music :( We had an amplified violinist very near our booth at a show...ever since then ANY amped music freaks him out. I suspect its a feedback thing  .

We never know, at our weekly summer art fairs , when or where they will put musicians...so he'd probably need to wear it continuously. does this seem feasible?
It might be a solution for my Clayden too. He is very afraid of the vacuum cleaner. He would be shaking like a leaf and hyperventilate but the biggest problem is that when he is scared, he has to come to me for comfort. He would stand on his two hind legs and demand to be picked up  So much so that he would even brave the source of the evilness and came close to me and my roaring vacuum cleaner in hand, stand on his two hind legs and asked me to pick him up. Kind of hard to vacuum with a shaking 45 pound clinging his dear life on your hip.... :lmt:
With all the responses, I am really excited to see if it works for Heart.
I am sure I will have to make sure it is snug due to the fluff, but I am hoping she will feel safe and secure once it is on

~ I will make sure to post our reaction (or nonreaction) to the BOOMS and in addition will take a picture of her wearing her special TEE~~~ :D :D
My sister bought one for their dog thats afraid of storms and it helped her. All you can do is try to see if it helps Heart. Good luck! :ghug:

Phooey... it only takes once for something like that to happen. Panda had never been afraid of thunderstorms or fireworks before. I would think they could wear the Thundershirt longer but I'd give the company a call to find out for sure. We used to attend art shows too so I know what you mean... you just never know who you're neighbor's will be.

I umm... forgot it on Panda the second time I put it on her because she went in the bedroom to lie on the bed near Jim and eventually fell asleep. She slept through the night with it on and I had it on her nice and snug. I think you'd want to supervise and be sure it's not too snug though.

I'm not saying it will work for every dog or every situation. In fact, I was thinking it might be a flop after the first try. But I looked at the instructions and it said it could take 3-4 times so figured I'd follow the instructions. (Now there's a novel idea! 8) ) I figured the YouTube videos with thunderstorm sounds might help to desensitize her too. I looked at a brief video I had taken of her on May 11th... she was also shaking because she was so scared/stressed. :( You can tell in the pictures that she's listening for the kaboom while the other dogs play. The top pictures are before I ordered the TS... the bottom are from the first time wearing it. Just waiting for the real thing to happen during the day to see how she responds now.

The left side of the TS in the picture above has velcro on both sides. It wraps under the dog and attaches on the right side of the shirt. Then the flap wraps over the top of that and attaches with velcro to make a nice snug fit. The two straps at the bottom of the picture go around the chest. It looks a little short on her but I was going by the chest measurements, not weight alone.

If it doesn't work, there's currently a 45 day guarantee. :D
