I may be a teensy tiny little bit dog vain... just slightly... |

Dave, this is what we run into when we go to The Greene, an upscale outdoor mall. It's set up to look like a small downtown with street parking and a center square with a fountain. Zoey is a people magnet. We actually made a point to pay attention to how much time we spent standing still so everyone could ogle Zoey versus actually walking; it was almost 2:1! There aren't many OES around, so naturally everyone is curious. Jen is always teasing me that if anything were to happen to her, I could find a new wife in minutes at The Greene so long as I take Zoey. I think any OES would behave like your Mady as they all LOVE attention. and bellyrubs! Vance |
yep Dave...welcome to the wonderful world of Sheepie ENVY~~~~~ ANYWHERE we go, we are mobbed by people. Kids, adults, waiters, drive bys,,,,Isn't it GREAT???? Personally, I love when I see the faces of the children light up when they spy my girl!!! All dolled up in her piggyblilng and a matchy-matchy bandana! I love talking to the children about my girl. And I KNOW Heart loves it too!!! NOW, that is not to say, too much of a good thing is never good (see Cicada thread).. Heart is more than ready to get into the car, and hide on the floor when we leave.... |
Even up here where oes are not common at all, when I go down for the mail and Butchy and I are standing at the end of the driveway I've had people swerve trying to see him better. I'm not proud either. |
This even includes agility trials. A number of the localish trials are held at soccer complexes which often have other events going on at the same time so the buildings are swimming with kids. Try getting a sheepdog to the ring on time when you have to walk through a sea of kids I usually tell them meet me as we exit the ring after we've run and, sure enough, when we leave the ring they're met by all these kids waiting to get their turn petting them. Little girls think it's great, so it's win-win. At one trial there were was a posse of young teenage boys who fell in love with Sybil. I had walked her down their way before we ran so she could see that the noise emanating from behind the wall that consituted one side of the ring had a perfectly logical explanation. By the time we ran she had her own cheering section Kristine |
Well that is because Mady is a beauty and so sweet! All of our sheepies are hard to pass by |
i used to worry about fluffenheimer causing traffic accidents when i went downtown or the strip in heavy traffic. |
David, I'm so jealous of all the attention you guys get! I can't wait till we get stopped every 10 feet! |
You got to love em.........don't ya? |
Yep, I've had OES since 1980 and it's been the same for all of mine. They draw attention where ever we go. When I'm out walking with them people slow down and yell out the car window " I love your dog or beautiful dog!" I've even had people stop the car and ask what kind of dog is that and how beautiful he is. I guess I'm so used to it I don't even think about it anymore. And your right about kids, they all want to hug the big furry dog. I've always kept mine in full coat and most people are just in awe of my beautiful boys. Of course they love the attention and are more than welcome to take the pets, hugs and praise. Cindy |
We've had the same problem at our local festival. It took hours to walk a couple of blocks! I felt like an underling assistant at a photo shoot. I lost count how many times I was asked to stand off to the side holding Tiggy's lead for safety while people took photos of each other with her. A couple of times I was asked to take the photos but most people realised I wasn't letting go of her lead and juggling their camera or phone and a lead could result in damage to the camera. Tiggy did really well but was pooped afterwards too. |
They are always noticed...but full coated they stop traffic. I am getting Nigel clipped on Thursday and we will be mourning his loss of coat, but we only clip once a year, so he will be cool for our worst heat in July/August/Sept. Enjoy the attention...I know Nigel expects everyone to stop and greet him. |
Yep, happens here too. With Chewie so willing to soak it up, I just go along w/ it! And the picture people really love it- as I can have Chewie stay in whatever pose they want, then I go out front by the camera person and get him to look into the camera.... |
I know your pain. I had to stop taking Quincy to Petsmart because I could never get in and out of there! I used to walk Quincy 2-4 miles a day, and people would pull over all the time and talk about the OES they had as a kid. I've had people walk up to me in the grocery store, telling me I looked familiar. It took me awhile to figure out that they had driven by me while I was walking the dog so many times that they thought they knew me personally! Things are a little different with Oscar. Due to all of his health issues, he can't be out around other dogs, so he really only goes to the vet's office. But there, people go crazy for him in the waiting area. Mady is just "representing"! Laurie and Oscar |
all together now lets sing "Wind beneath my wings" in honor of all those who take second place to the one that gets all the attention. This is dedicated to all the sheepie owners who allow their furkids to bask in the center of attention. We've all been there! |
When we take them we just expect it--and they love posing for pictures and getting the hugs! I do like the smiles on peoples faces! It makes me smile! |
