This afternoon when it was time for their walk, Rudy was doing backflips and Hudson laid down by the door, showing no real interest. But hubby put in his leash and took him along anyway, despite my suggestion that he might want to leave him behind this time. He said that Hudson walked fine, but when they got home he laid down and didn't really want to do much of anything. He ate okay, kept everything down, and the peeing and pooing systems are working fine, but he just wants to lay down and not be poked at. I noticed that, although he walks slowly, he's not limping at all. He whined going up the stairs, and again climbing up on the couch (dogs who are sick get especially indulged around here). He seemed to get up okay, but I thought he appeared to be only putting weight on his right leg when getting up, but later when I gently squeezed his thigh/hip area, he squealed when I applied gentle pressure to his right thigh muscles. I was able to bend his leg at all the joints, including the hip without any fussing. He's had his second dinner, went up and down the stairs slowly without crying just now(no way on Earth he'd let anyone carry him up or down) and is now settled in for the night. I'll call the vet tomorrow. I'm thinking it might be a muscle thing...so a good night's sleep in a confined area is probably the best thing for him anyway. Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas to offer? I don't think it's anything life threatening, but it is hard to see him like this. Despite his scaredy catness, when it comes to pain Hudson's generally one pretty tough cookie. When he complains it sets off alarm bells in my head. |

We have wood floors and they're horrible on the dogs. They come running in from the wet grass and it's like a skater hitting the ice... Not good. They will usually take it easy the rest of that day and be over it the next. We've now gotten to where we won't let Zoey run into the house it it's the least bit wet out to cut down on this. Keep us posted on Hudson. Vance |
Could be muscle strain, strained or torn ligament. Rest and maybe a short NSAID regime from the vet for pain control. Normally vets don't get upset unless there is obvious malfunction or the pain lasts more than 2 weeks. Also check for a bite in the area. Early arthritis? That's when the pain last for 2 weeks and xrays are taken. I hang my head in shame but my guys might yelp when moving and it's due to a where the rear leg and body join and the long hair has tangled and is pulling when they make certain movements. Slip shod grooming. |
so sorry...hope Hudson is feeling better this morning... |
Hope a good night's sleep restored him! |
Fingers crossed he is better this morning. Keep us posted. |
He slept well but cried a lot when he first got up. Now he is napping but seems to get up ok. We see the vet at four today. |
Hope it's nothing |
Have been checking in on this thread to see if there is any update of Hudson. Hope it's nothing too Will check back to see if you have time to post an update after visiting the vet. /Gentle belly rub for Hudson |
Now I am thinking it's an ear infection that has made him really grouchy and yucky. He's been hiding in his crate all day, which is unusual. I have had a killer headache for three full days. Even my trusty T3s haven't helped...but it worked out that I am home with him while we wait to go to the vet so at least that's a silver lining. And the waiting continues... |
I keep checking back too. Hoping you both will be feeling better soon! |
I hope you get to the bottom of what's ailing Hudson and that it's something easy to fix. Good luck. |
