OESCA OES Fun Photo Gallery

Hi,

Very soon I will be launching a new feature on the OESCA website. An "OES Fun" Photo Gallery.

OESCA members will be able to submit their fun (not show) OES pictures for ALL (members and non-members) to view. The photos must be unidentifiable (No advertisements).

The page for members to begin submitting their photos is almost ready to go live. The only thing holding me back is coming up with a list of categories for the member to select from for their photo (example: Puppies, OES at play).

So please give me your suggestions for photo categories.

Dennis

Dennis...this is GREAT!!!! Showing everyone that these sheepies have a wonderful sense of mischief and naughtiness (at times) as well as being Clowns!!! I can't wait to post a couple of pictures of Heart in very very compromising situations!!!

Here are a couple of suggestions for the categories:::

Sleepy Sheepies

Naughty Sheepies

Silly Sheepies.

Thanks Dennis! That is a wonderful idea!!
How about
"Sheepies in the water"
"Muddy Sheepies"
"Sheepies at play"

I am sure I can think of more :lmt:
Thank you for all you do to keep the web site looking great!
I'd like to see OESCA's website showcase only Sheepies that were whelped while their breeders were qualified to participate under OESCAs Breeder Referral program.

Of course, I have a conflict of interest that needs to be disclosed as the operator of a competing photo gallery. :D

I feel that OESCAs website ought to do everything to encourage responsible breeding (and not be competing with oes.org).

I just love the thought of a header or footer on every photo that says: "This happy and healthy OES was whelped by breeders participating in OESCA's Breeder Referral Program"

Good thought Ron but not practical "in use". OESCA has several very good breeders who fit the qualifications to be on the Breeer Referral list but choose not to.
Yup. What Marilyn said. My dogs and Chewie, for instance, would not qualify based on the criteria you suggest, as I choose not to be listed. At the rate I breed, why bother?

Ron - Dennis has an ulterior motive, but not to compete with the forum. There is nothing to say photos can't be featured both places. Some of the submitted pics may be selected to add texture to the OESCA website as appropriate, which is why they should not be win pics etc. The pics are for fun, not advertising.

PLUS there is nothing to say OESCA members shouldn't own rescue dogs, for instance, who most likely were not bred by OESCA breeders...should we tell them they don't count? Don't think so.

ALSO he really needs help with categories. He asked me earlier this week and, tsk, tsk, I haven't gotten back to him because I'm just not creatively good that way, but I sense Val and Kathy may be.

I'm saying they would need to meet the qualifications, not be listed. The primary qualification is of course signing the code of ethics... I understand that not all (or most?) breeders have pups that are unspoken for.

I know it's disappointing if your dogs don't qualify under that ad hoc proposal (really just a suggestion) of mine; but you've got lots of places to showcase them -- including here!

The website should have as a purpose to promote responsible breeding practices to the public. No?

This isn't quite the way it is. All the qualifications are on a level playing field for the breeder referral list. The code of ethics isn't just signed by people who want to be on the breeder referral list. The code of ethics is signed by anyone & everyone who applies for membership in OESCA.....whether they are a breeder or a person that shows dogs in conformation or performance or own a companion or rescue & do nothing other than love the breed & want to promote it.

Exactly - OESCA isn't exclusively about or for breeders, who are in any event a minority of the membership, and Dennis already set a sensible criteria: that photo submissions come from the membership, who as Marilyn pointed out have already signed the code of ethics. so that criteria would be redundant.

The club is not only about responsible breeding practices, but also responsible ownership, both of which are intended to reduce the need for rescue. The health research the club funds thanks to the generosity of the membership is intended to benefit all OES, regardless of origins, and rescue most certainly the same. The Old English Times usually has several pages of pictures and short bios of rescue dogs placed by OESCA members in the time period preceding publication, and rescue dogs in general are featured, for instance, in performance and other articles as well. So there's precedence and it doesn't serve the breed to confine the breed's parent club in this country to a narrow segment of dogs.

I still don't see the competitive aspect of it as the forum is interactive and has thousands of members, including many OESCA members, while OESCA membership is only about 750 members worldwide, so any photo collection would already be self-limiting.

I missed an excellent photo opp driving home from an agility trial today when "OESCA member bred" Sybil, who had been grazing like grass was going out of style in between classes, puked about a pound of slimy grass into my lap, though she still managed to win two of the three classes she ran in. Or then again, maybe not - don't think that's quite what Dennis had in mind ;-) Mind you, Dawn would have been on the ball and had her camera ready to capture the moment.

Any time a pic is asked for, you know I wanna share!

Thanks for telling me about this thread, Kathy!
Wow! Time fies.

The fun album, in its early form, is up at http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... allery.php

You can get to it right of the main page. look for the Just For Fun menu item.

Dennis is hoping more OESCA members with go to the member's section on the OESCA website and test it for him. If you run into any problems, please let him know in case anything needs to be tweaked. I submitted a picture of Dazzle and it seemed pretty slick to me, but some additional testing would still be very much appreciated, I'm sure.

Thanks!
Kristine
So what is the issue with OESCA. I am a bit lost on this I thought he wanted section on PICS and why did I think CA was Canada
