Good question. I believe Karen in NY has flown her dogs to Puerto Rico often. We want to take ours to Mexico. |
Baba wrote: Has anyone ever done any travel with their sheepdog by air? I don't mean shipping puppies, but travelling somewhere with your grown sheepdog by air? The family that adopted Ripple from us flew here from Nebraska to fly him back with him! (PHEW did that make sense?) I forget the name of the airline, I can check again with them but, they had a wonderful experience. I think they had some mechancal problems and the flight crew got Ripple out and let them walk around with him while they were delayed! Poor little Ripple had an accident in his crate and one of the crew members cleaned it while they were out walking him. They were very impressed with how the whole experience went! |
Several years ago, my sheepie Megan and I flew from Minneapolis to Dulles in D.C. for Christmas. We took United and since it was my first time flying with a pet, I asked lots of questions and was very comfortable with their policy. I was told I could watch her being boarded and then I could board. It did not happen b/4 I boarded and was told if I did not get on, the door would be locked and I couldn't get on. I told them if my dog was not on the plane, we would see how good their security really was. The pilot anounced over the PA that she had been boarded. Long story short, after long flight delays and changing planes in chicago, I did get to see her boarder there, we got to D.C very late. By the time Megan was FINALLY brought out, she was not only hungry but really had to go potty. When I opened the crate door, Meg took a few steps out squatted and peed. Those were my sentiments exactly but she was the only one who could get away with leaving a very large puddle. I just walked away. It was an experience but I never did it again. By the way, you will need updated shots and a Health Certificate. I made all my arrangements and departure in 24 hours. I wouldn't do it again because my dogs aren't welcome at my sisters house. Yes, she ike dogs just not mine. Nancy |
There is a farily new airline called Pet Airways that flies the pets in cabin and has some popular destinations. If you web search them, you will get to their website for more info. |

Our cousin is a flight attendant, and I won't even tell you the horror stories..... We have taken quite a few trips to Florida with Oscar in the last decade, and we drive every time. I would only fly with Oscar if he could be in the seat next to me. Laurie and Oscar |
Are you planning on going somewhere, David? Perhaps to go pick up Charm? |

And Carl, they didn't just tempt me with Charm, but they also had TEDDY!! I was not prepared for two pups. I have been feeling quite broody about them since returning. Maybe if you sent Dawnie to me.... |
Actually the price for travel with Pet Airlines is not much more than travelling cargo on a commecial airline. But their schedules are different and they don't travel to all destinations. Which is why I suggest you go to the website and see where and when they travel... I have no connection to Pet Airways. Just a regular sheepie owner looking for ways to travel that is least stressful to my dog! |

Maybe if you sent Dawnie to me.... Ooh sounds like they were seriously turning the thumbscrews on you Kim... evil wicked puppy breeders.... and all ganging up on you in a foriegn land! And a boy baby Bobtail for David no less..... (Boys rule and girls... well they are pretty darned good as well.) Were they equally adamant that David could easily groom another baby Bobtail? I'll bet that they had no shame nor ends to their wiles at all? As far as sending Dawnie...... well let's just say that since her recent near fatal infection I have been even more protective (read possesive) of my little girl.... . (well okay she is Michele's little girl but that does't make her any less important to her daddy). Thanks and Cheers Carl |
I have flown into Mexico City quite often with my dogs. I try to pick a non stop airline. I can tell you i love Frontier and Mexicana. They take great care of the dogs and I've NEVER had a problem with them. However you WILL need to see a vet in Mexico before you are allowed to fly out with them. It's really not bad, you will fly in and they will deliver the dog to you. It didn't take more than 20 min or so. Then you go thru Customs and then pick up your dog and go thru another check in point. If i can help you with anything else just pm me. OH and make sure your hotel will ALLOW dogs because not all that many do. I was amazed they could put on a EXPO-CAN in Monterrey and not one hotel would allow dogs! |
