Hope they settle in quickly and start doing their work! Love the assistants. |
Our first Sheepie, the one I married my husband to get, lived with my husband's parents while he was in college. His mother kept 6 hives in her backyard (avid gardener). She had a large metal water tub, with a log in it, for the bees. Maudie loves the bees. One of her favorite games was to knock the bees off of the log, into the water. Or she would walk around the yard, buzzing due to the bees in her mouth. Amazingly, thy never stung her and she never killed them. |
Oh, I remember the log in water!! After Paige got too close to the hive with her nose.......and she told the other dogs about the stining box, all gave great space to bees.....except Crumpet who insisted they needed to be caught in mid flight. Those were the days......... |
My basset and bee friends up in Duluth have theirs going too. They had a winter kill - the "fake" spring days got them moving, then they starved..I believe that's what happened. Now they are queen replacing - 2 have died right after they got them. Russian queens...does that sounds right?? Good luck! |
