Dutch has CCL

Last night I noticed Dutch walking with back leg held up and thought perhaps she had hurt her foot. Well this am she was still walking that way so off we went to the Vets. After examination and then ex rays they found that she had a CCL (Cranial Cruciate Ligament) of the left back knee. I am going to PEI from June 1 to 6th for g/sons wedding so the Vet suggested that the op be held off till I come back because of the aftercare needed. They say she should only be walked on a leash for short walks till then and no roughhousing or play .She has been given OsteO-3 (supplement) and Metacam(antiinflamatory). And she is still on Propalin for her bladder incontinence. My poor girl

I feel like a traitor going away when she is not well and will have to be left in a kennel altho each kennel has it's inside area with its own outside run and will be walked twice a day.

Oh poor little gal!

I am sure she will be fine while you are away!
Be sure the kennel knows about her condition and that she
MUST be leash walked!
They may be able to put rubber mats underneath lots of cushion
to keep her comfy!

:ghug: :ghug:
poor thing....

Sending healing light to her from all of us in St. Louis......

:ghug: :ghug:
Poor Dutch. :(
Don't feel bad, you got her to the vet for a diagnosis straight away and she is on meds to help the pain and you can tell the kennel what is wrong and what she needs.
So sorry to hear this news. I almost think the kennel will be easier for her since she will be out of her routine. She will be resting comfortably and ready for her surgery when you come back home. Hopefully, you can call to check up on her to see how she's doing. Try not to worry!
Sorry to hear that, Jean :(

:ghug: To Dutch :ghug:

I am thinking like Val - the kennel will be a nice way to keep her activity low. It should be enough of a change to keep her mentally busy seeing and smelling all the new stuff - keep her occupied!

Make sure you let us know when her surgery is :hearts: :hearts:
My 12 year old Pooh Bear had a tear in his ACL and had surgery a few years ago. I was torn between the TPLO and the regular repair because of the age he was. I decided on the regular surgery and he responded well. He healed very well afterward and had follow up therapy at the vet office. They tried water therapy with him, but only got him in so far because he thought he was getting a bath! Surgery is harder on us "parents" than the dog. Pooh is experiencing weakness in his back end now which is difficult to see. He doesn't seem to be in pain, just looks at us sadly and seems to ask "what happened to me"
Jean: i'm sorry to hear you and Dutch are going through this. It sounds like you have everything covered. Go and have fun at the Wedding and then Dutch will be ready for what is before you. :ghug: :ghug:
Thanks for the good wishes for Dutch and me :) they are much appreciated . Does anyone have any thoughts on what is best TPLO or TTA, she is slated for TTA surgery. Wouldn't you know she isn't holding her back leg up at all this am but maybe thats the pain meds kicking in :wag: (love this little smilie  )
Hope the surgery goes well! :crossed: :crossed:
sorry to hear this. hope all goes well.'
enjoy the wedding. Dutch will be fine.
I'm sorry to hear about the impending surgery :ghug: What everyone said on the resting, relaxing and med control. I know it will be hard to be away, even for your grandchilds wedding. Big hugs to you too :ghug: :ghug:
Oh no... Just came in to say sorry as well for Dutch and I'm glad things seem to be under control. I hope you can enjoy that wedding ...and things go well with the surgery when you return!!! :ghug:
