control of his hind end. I guess the only solution at this point is to cover it. I'm washing his back end regardless, so I'd at least like to salvage my carpets and furniture. Anyone have any experience with this issue? I did read a couple days ago about Ron giving fiber ad an aid, but it hasn't yet worked for us. Can I get baby diapers to fit, or is this a strictly dog probuct? We have no tail, obviously, which is why I was wondering. I'm at the end of my rope with this issue, and I don't know what else I can do. Shellie |

Are we talking #1 or #1 and #2? Also boy diapers are different that bitch diapers (if #1 only) My first go round with them I used people diapers. What a patient girl she was! All that noise didn't bother her. Second bitch I got the special "pants" and set in a sanitary napkin...at first. Later a larger area was needed so cut a people diaper in half. If you just search for dog incontinence products you'll see a wide range of products: http://www.seniorpetproducts.com/catalog/dog-diapers-c251.html |
Well, Tucker is having issues with both now. #1 just started this weekend. He doesn't know he is doing it, and cannot control it. He hangs his head, but we don't react at all. Poor guy. He is now peeing in his sleep. Should I be getting girls diapers vs boys? I think the girls absorb more in the back- which would be the belly if I put the closure on his back. I did look at a bunch of stuff on petedge, but I will look at the link as well. Shellie |
Tonks had trouble with incontinence, and we tried doggie diapers. Without a tail to hold them up, they really didn't stay on. I ended up putting her in one of my t-shirts, and pinning the diapers to the hem of the shirt. She was pretty uncomfortable, but its what we had to do until the incontinence meds kicked in. Proin is a good solution for urinary incontinence. You should talk to your vet for suggestions and help. |
We used men's Depends in size small when we had Portage. The doggy diapers were all too short. The elastic on the Depends worked really well. They were pull up style so they stayed on really well. They really made life with an in continent dog easier and I think allowed him some dignity. He HATED messing in the house. |
They make fabric pants for the females when they are in heat - those will fit the best on him. They are made to put a disposable pad in them. That will cover the poop issues. Basset Simon is a bit urine incontinent (d/t age and illness) and he wears a pee band (for male dogs) at night, or if we are going to be gone for over 4-6 hours. At his worst in his kidney failure, he was drinking copious amounts of water to compensate - and I used toddler diapers in the band. Now we have stabilized and can use generic women's maxi pads. Both the pants and bands have a waterproof liner, and are machine washable - but not dryer recommended. Good luck with your boy. |
Thanks so much guys! I ran out last night and grabbed some cheapie diapers just for the next 24 or so hours. Of course I got a size way to small, so we took and old pair of Vic's shorts and pinned one to the inside. So far so good. The problem is I am going to have to do that part outside. He pees as soon as you get close to the "area". But, success all the same! At least I didn't have to spend hours this AM cleaning up the messes. I am going to order something from that link in the earlier post, but in the meantime I'm going to dry some men's depens I think. I saw some last night that are just about the same color as Tucker's back half. We're trying to blend... Thanks again!! Shellie |
I've had good luck with children's pull-ups. Guess it depends on his size, but they worked. |
