It happened again! This time it was Snoop who stepped up to the plate. I had just left my home and was taking Snoop for a walk. I live on a large corner property which is fully fenced. The fence is solid and when I had almost reached the corner I hear what I originally thought were two people fighting and swearing loudly. Then I hear my fence being kicked and see panels being knocked down but still don't know what's going on as the fence is too tall but yell "hey stop kicking my fence!". I now reach the corner and to my horror I see it's a single person and he's in the full midst of a psychotic breakdown? His arms are flapping and he's pulling his hair, still ranting and suddenly his attention is on me. His rage was so intense. "You shut the $&%^& up you Bi--- , I'll show you to keep your mouth shut". I am frozen with fear as he starts coming towards me. We are about 6-8 ft away from each other. Snoop who has been beside me ROARS. Yes, he roars! The guys looks at him and notices him for the first time and the sounds coming out of Snoop snaps me out of my freeze. The guy drops what I thought was tin foil and starts to run. It is only then I look down and see the "tin foil"- it was a pair of scissors. Due to his breed, I've made sure that since the age of 13 wks he's been well socialized with other dogs,(he lives with Merlin, Gilligan and Panda) people- (always gives everyone face washes), cats-( he sleeps with the cats) and his best pals -the bunnies. His tail is always wagging and I use him as an advocate for his breed, but yesterday he took on a lion persona when I needed him the most. |

Wow Marianne! That must have been horrifying for you! Good boy Snoop! So glad that everyone is ok and that Snoop stepped up to the plate when you needed him! |
OMG, how horrible!! I'm so glad you are both ok and that Snoop was with you. A man and his dog were both stabbed here in Melbourne just a week ago. They are ok but the dog was stabbed in the head and needs rehab as a muscle for chewing was damaged. I straight away thought of them and thought thank goodness you and Snoop weren't stabbed. PS Marianne is it my imagination or do you have more than your fair share of, how do I put this , excitment in your life. |
Oh, Marianne! How awful and scary. I am so glad you had your protector with you and he did save you! And I am so glad you were not hurt! Give Snoopy a huge hug from all of us. |
I am so glad both your and Snoop are okay!!! Big hugs to Snoop for keeping his Momma safe. |
http://fav.me/d2rfx0t thanks snoop for returning mom's favor to you. |
Way to go Snoops! He deserves some extra special treats today. So sorry you had to go through this horrible experience. How are you? What breed is Snoops? He has a beautiful face! Give him big kisses from all of us! |
I'm so glad that you, Snoops and most of your fence are OK. How scary!! Good boy, Snoops! I had that happen one night when a group of us (women and kids) were walking in the cool evening, after dark. We were in a well lit, safe neighborhood. I was in front, with Chewie just in front of me, on lead. I heard a rumbly growl...and then figured it was coming from my dog! I looked ahead, and saw a man on the sidewalk about a block ahead, coming at us..... he did switch sides, as I'm sure he heard the growl as he got closer. As soon as he was past, Chewie went back to his normal happy self. He obviously sensed something was up! Gotta love our dogs!!! |
Our Hero, Soop!!!!! You can see Snoop's beautiful personality in his huge grin. Thank God everything is ok. |
Wow! I'm so glad Snoop was there to save you! Amazing. |
way to go snoop better get some extra hugs for you today !! glad he was there for you.. i always wonder if my 2 would jump in and save me.. at least you know now he did save his mom |
Thanks everyone for the comments and OMG it was truly frightening! Snoop had a reward of belly rubs, a kiss on his big nose and a great big piece of roast beef. Well deserved! His brothers got some too but he got the biggest piece. Snoop is a Pitbull. which is why we have had him so extensively socialized as his breed often makes people naturally wary of him. He's been in and out of training since the age of 13 wks when he arrived at our home and is now 2 and 1/2. However in this case, I was glad it wasn't Merlin (who probably would have bolted) or frail Gilligan who was with me, as I had walked them in the neighborhood just mins before. Panda, who reacts at aggression, I have no doubt would also have reacted, but as he's now nearing 10 and has failing eyesight may have also been injured. I also would never use Snoop in a capacity to scare someone as he seriously would give people the biggest face washes, but in this case I have to say I'm glad he was the one I was walking at that moment in time and that he did step up in protective mode. Whew! Surprised the heck outta me Marianne |
Oh my goodness I got chills reading your story, So thrilled your both okay the world is a scary place *hugs to you both*. |
Mim, just realized I hadn't commented on your post..gasp you are right! I do have my share of adventures, then again, the first scary incident happened almost 20 years ago. Besides, I keep saying I must have been evil in my previous life cause I'm sure making up for it in this one. LOL Marianne |
Well Marianne, if you were evil in a past life, which I doubt very much. You are more than making up for it, maybe you just had a really cushy protected past life and you're getting a few lives worth of excitment now. So glad your adventures seem to work out ok in the end. |
Wow, Marianne, so thankful Snoop was there to protect you AND so thankful that neither of you were hurt. Good boy Snoop, good boy. |
It must have been horrifying meeting this mad man with scissors! I am so happy your Snoop scared him away! Good boy! I started keeping dogs just to have company on my walks; Need a lot of exersizing. I soon notised that I also felt more safe. I think the most kindly dog would protect us if nessesary. I am afraid the old ones would to.....I'm happy it has't ever been needed. However, having a pitbul as a best friend walking besides you......wow... .........noone would ever dare to attack you! Lucky you and kisses to Snoop! |
I might have under-estimated our OTB Lab and Chauncey if we would have been in a similar situation. They are/were just so friendly. Of the two I believe Chaunce would be the one to be defensive. I am a night person and would often walk them late at night, thankfully without a problem. I don't walk in the wee hours of the morning as much as I did before I had to retire, but do on occasion. Our area is still fairly safe, it has changed over the past 5-10 years, but I feel ( maybe falsely ) secure with a 90 +lb dog on a leash. Chauncey seems to be always on guard when walking and if someone is near I know it. If Bob or I are walking him and he senses that someone is near he approaches cautiously....once they ask to pet him and we allow it, he has a new best friend. Conversely, we had a dry twall technician work on our bathroom recently and Chauncey... Did Nottrust this guy and would do anything to stay in-between him & us. I trusted Chauncey's opinion. |
