Do I need to bag iTunes and buy my music through Amazon? |
|
Be careful -- you don't want to lose previously purchased items! |
Suggested approaches: 1) Unplug iPod, reboot computer, plug iPod back in, wait a few see if anything comes up. 2) Go directly to apple.com and download itunes and go through install again. 3) Adopt a 15 year old... |
Are you using a Mac or a PC? Actually, the fact that you "don't see it" makes me think it's a PC because on a Mac, you shouldn't have to do anything for the download except maybe restart-- there's no "install" by the user. First and foremost, close everything and restart the computer. Go to iTunes. (I'm going to hope this is the same on a PC): Go to the "iTunes" drop down and look for "check for updates." Whatever it gives you there, download that one. If you don't have that option, do what Ron said and go to Apple and download it. If you're worried about losing your stuff, go to the iTunes folder and just copy the contents to your desktop so you have a backup. That way, no matter what you screw up, you don't lose a thing. |
Jill, I knew you'd be along. I've shut the PC down, started it up, and nothing. When I go to my iTunes icon, I get the "Download this now!" screen. I did try to download it from apple.com and the same thing happened. It supposedly downloaded, but I don't see it anywhere. And every time I go to iTunes, I get the "Download this now!" screen. It's like an endless loop. |
Are you logged in as the admin (or owner) of the PC? I seem to recall having a similar problem when not logged in. If/when you download something, sometimes it helps to download it to your desktop so you can find it easily. |
The problem is, it didn't ask me where I wanted to download it to. I poked around Google today and found some suggestions, one being to turn off the pop-up blocker. That may be preventing the download. So I'll try that. If it doesn't work, I'll be buying music from Amazon. |
I call Apple when I have this kind of problem...they always help me. |
Are you sure it's actually itunes giving you that message?.... maybe you have a virus? I've never seen itunes pop up a message saying download this now.... |
The solution was turning off the pop-up blocker. I could access MY iTunes library and MY iPod, but I couldn't get to the iTunes store. It took multiple tries, but I appear to have conquered the small device. What a PITA. |
