What is an Alsatian ?? ....................... A german shepherd dog Also once known as a Berger Allemand or Deutscher Schäferhund or a Schäferhund I have heard of a GSD being an alsatian and the schaferhund but the berger allemand is new to me |
Actually, I was a little wrong about the John Wayne part. The dog's name was Duke. The local firemen got to calling the dog Big Duke and John Wayne was Little Duke. "In John Wayne's own words, "There've been a lot of stories about how I got to be called Duke. One was that I played the part of a duke in a school play, which I never did. Sometimes, they even said I was descended from royalty! It was all a lot of rubbish. Hell, the truth is that I was named after a dog!" John Wayne was born Marion Michael Morrison in Winterset, Iowa. When young Marion was six, the family moved to California, eventually settling in Glendale. Marion delivered newspapers in the morning with his trusty Airedale, Duke. The locale firemen called them "Big Duke" and "Little Duke." Also just read that Christopher Plummer had an Airedale when he was a boy. |

There is no difference between hair and fur. You may use the terms interchangeably, although fur tends to connote lots of hair. There is no difference between the two. Sheepdogs are sometimes said to have hair because they don't shed annually. But the fact they don't have a shedding season doesn't mean that they don't have fur. The difference in length of hair doesn't make short hair fur, or my eyelashes and leg hair would qualify -- yet nobody calls those "fur". Density and shortness of hair together does not make hair into fur, either. I don't wanna give a personal example for that! Fur is just a non-scientifically defined, inexact term used casually to imply thick dense hair on animals. Or so I think! |

Well they don't shed, but just like you and me they lose some hair and some hair breaks. And they have lots of hair to break off! I find more hair from Joan and me than I do from Mulligan. |
