I live in an apartment building, so I'm a little concerned with the barking. Do they bark a lot? Is it easy to try and train them not to? The apartment building is pet friendly and has quite a bit of dog parks within the community, as well as public parks outside the apartment complex. Any other tips and advice before my new baby gets here?! Thank you and I look forward to chatting with many of you and following everyone's progress with their babies! -Shannon |

Congratulations! I am guessing that there are some OES that bark, and some that don't, but mine is not a barker (unless she is chasing sheep). I have asked our postman and neighbours if they ever hear her when we are not home, and they don't. Friends of ours have an OES in an apartment building and they have not had any issues with barking. If you are taking an elevator, you will want to make sure to train your dog well to just get on the elevator and sit, not to be jumping all over anyone else in the elevator, as you want to keep happy neighbours. Please post pictures when you get your puppy-we all like to get our puppy fix and to hear about your adventures with him or her! |
Thank you! I'm very excited. And thanks for the advice! I'm a little nervous, as its the very first dog I will have raised on my own (without the help of parents and siblings). I will definitely post pictures when we get him! In the meantime, I will take any advice/tips I can get! Thanks again. |
Congratulations on your new and up coming fur baby, carefull there addictive and they say you cant stop at one. Your breeder should supply you with an info sheet, diet advice etc and you can take it from there with when baby comes home plenty here on the forum to also help with baby pupper advice. Things you will need when fur baby comes home, A crate if you can Plenty of chew toys A puppy lead and soft collar Food the breeder has had the baby on An appointment with the vet As far as barking with OES there all different, so training is a must, most are fairly laid back in that department, mine just go crazy when family get home from work or a visitor enters, only lasts for 5 mins then all quiet on the southern front. If you have to leave the pupper for a while, crate for safety while your out and things like Kongs stuffed with treats or a bone to keep the munchin occupied while you are out, then there busy with that rather then a bark or sook fest. OES do well in apartments but also plenty of walkies and runs in a park to tire them out. They say a tired OES is a happy OES. Just wait till all the puppy vacs are finished for those dog park antics. Best wishes with your new baby and look forward to seeing photos of the newest munchin. |
