Hello to you all from China

Hello, my name is Alexander. I live in SJZ city in Hebei Province, China. It's a pleasure to meet you. I am a middle school student in NO.40 Middle Scholl in Shijiazhuang city. I am only 15 this year. I study English at school. My English isn't good but I like English. I don't have a pet because I have no time to look after it well. I am busy with my study. I want to have a pet. After I graduate from school, I will have one. I also want to improve my English. All of you can help me. That's it. I have to leave now because the IT class is over.

See you next Thursday!!

Hi Alexander. Welcome to the forum.
Enjoy!
Welcome!!!!!!
Hi Alexander! Your English is beautiful, very impressive, young man! I know how to say "Hi " in mandarin, (but not spell it!), and that's about it! Welcome to the forum. Would you tell us what an Old English Sheepdog in called in your language?

Karen :)
I am very happy that I have some time to be online today, at home.

First thank you all.

I have looked up the word "sheepdog" in a dictionary. It means a dog which can protect sheep right? In China I don't often hear of this kind of dog. So I don't know much about it. You want to know what an Old English Sheepdog called in my language? It's hard to say but I will have a try. We call it "hu yang gou" in Chinese. It souds like the words "WHO YOUNG GO" in English. "hu" means protect, "yang" means sheep and "gou" means dogs. It is literal translation. I don't know anything else about that.

I am so excited that I can "talk" to you. I have never talked to a foreigner before.[/i]
Although I'm not good at English, I can understand most of the words you say. If I cannot understand what you say, I can look them up in my dictionary.

I will have an important exam on 22th June. So I have to study hard every day. Now it is 8 o'clock in the evening here. I have to study at least 2 hours. So that's all.

By the way, if you are interested in my school, NO.40 Middle School, you can go to WWW.SJZ40Z.COM . We held a sports meeting a few days ago. You can see some pictures about our sports meeting. On it's home page, you can click the "运动会" icon. It means "sports meeting". I think it is interesting.

Time is up. See you next time!!!!
I enjoyed seeing the pictures of the parade before the sports event, and it looks like you have some good athletes in Track.

There was this picture on the homepage for your school. Can you tell me what this picture means? The article talks about the One China policy towards Taiwan, and complains that Japan has hurt the feelings of the Chinese people by their recent insensitivity towards Japan's actions from 1894 through World War II.
Image

Maybe the news here is not so deep... can you tell me what Japan has done recently to make your leaders so angry? Are you angry with Japan also? Why?

Thanks for coming to visit!
Hello !

It is exciting to hear from someone in China!!! Do you have sheepdogs in China? What is the most common pet in your country? Do many people have dogs?

You are doing very well with English, keep up the good work.
Welcome Alexander! We are happy to have you join us! The website from your school is very interesting. Do you compete in sports? Which ones?
Hello Alexander;

Your command of English is wonderful and I look forward to hearing about your life in China.
Hi,Ron

I am happy you like our website.
I don't want to say much about the picture. But you have made a mistake. Not only our leaders but also all the Chinese people are angry. Firstly,Japanese could not face their war of aggression squarely. Scondly, these days, Japanese history text book's revision makes all the people in the Asia so angry. They say they haven't make any wars.
In a word, we are overwhelmed with indignation.
We don't often hear of sheepdogs in China. Many cities in China have some rules on keeping pets. The goverment think if so many people keep pets, the city will not be clean. We often see people keep little dogs as pets. They are more little than the dogs in the picture on this website. Another important reason is that some people are afraid of these little animals.
But I don't think it's dangerous to keep such a little pet.
There aren't many countries where the textbooks are written by independent scholars. Even in the United States the textbooks are written by independent companies and scholars, but are then approved by each town's school board, so in effect even in the United States some good books are not used and some bad ones are used. I think you would be surprised to hear what the scholars in the United States have to say about the current tension between your two countries.

It is very sad that tensions are raised over words between two countries that are now filled with very peaceful people, while in other parts of the world there are people fighting for real. Wouldn't it be nice if all countries that have only very minor differences could put them aside and work together to solve problems where people are now fighting and dying?

Japan isn't going to launch an attack on your country ever again. They suffered great humiliation already, they had two nuclear bombs dropped on their people to pay for their wrongdoings, and they have apologized very frequently, and much much more than ANY other country has ever apologized for past wrongs (try to think of an example of another very big country apologizing for anything in its history). It is very painful for a country to continue to admit that what they had done was wrong.

In 1941, Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in what is now the state of Hawaii in the United States. In that attack, a large number of American soldiers were killed while they were sleeping. I have visited Pearl Harbor. On my visit, there were more Japanese paying their respects to the American dead than there were Americans paying their respects. The people who run the tours are the last living survivors of the attack. They are now very old.

They have forgiven the Japanese for the attack. The Japanese have apologized. The United States and Japan are now very good friends. Both sides have to be willing to forgive and forget and to move forward.

I hope that some day both your government and the government of Japan can put aside the anger, learn to forgive each other and try to forget the bad things in the past. For the sake of your people, the Japanese people and all the people of the world.

Good luck!

PS Imagine what the people in the little part of that picture must think when they see things like that on SCHOOL websites...
I'm sorry about that picture.It's not a original picture. It comes from another website with the news. May be there is some difference between our understanding. This picture shows only our standpoint on Taiwan. It doesn't mean any thing else at all. Maybe my expression above isn' t very clear.

I think it isn't necessary for us to dispute this. And I am only a middle school student. I don't know much about politics.
Maybe you can understand this way;

Your government is making a big complaint over something from long ago for political reasons. Your government's attitude towards Japan influences the way that all of your fellow countrymen feel about Japan.

Your complaint about Japan was that their school textbooks were not teaching about Japan's aggression, at the same time your school website has a picture of China eating up Taiwan, a very aggressive act.

The two examples are not completely analagous, not completely perfect. I was just trying to make a point... Should Taiwan demand that China apologize for the school's website? Or should they just act like adults, forgive and forget about it, and move on to solving the real issues?

Sorry about distracting you from learning about English and Sheepdogs.
:lol: Hello!!!
My name is Haley Potter, Harry Potter's brother.
Nice to meet you all!
A seven-day-holiday from May 1 to May 7. We are excited about the coming holiday. But I don't feel like travelling at all. So I prefer to stay at home rather than go to other places. I will improve my study to get a good mark in the exam.
Could you tell me if there is a holiday in May.
It doesn't matter. May I know your information,please?
I can see it tomorrow.

Good bye!
I beleive you are asking if US has a national holiday in May? We have a holiday at the end of May called "Memorial Day". This is a day that we set aside to remember and honor all the brave men and women who died in the service of our country. This holiday is celebrated towards the end of the month- usually the last Monday in May. Most people take vacation that day, and spend time together as a family. Children have the day off from school.

In the USA, most of our schools begin in the fall, and end in the summer. Most of the children then have a summer vacation, which usually lasts from early June, to late August or early September. This is a period of time where they do not attend school (some may go to a summer school, which will last about a month).

The main reason for this, originally, is because when our public schools were started, many of the families needed their children in the summer to help them with farming and other chores. We have continued this summer break as a tradition since then, even though most families no longer farm.

Did this answer your question about a holiday?

Do you go to school all year long in China?

Karen :)
Hi,

Welcome to the forum! I'm so impressed with your writing ability in English as I formally taught ESL( English as a second language) to foreign students in Vancouver (Canada) where I live. You are very talented and I enjoy hearing about your life and studies in China.

Marianne and the boys (3 dogs - Blue, Merlin and Panda)
Welcome to the forum!!
Well, the holiday is over and I am buzy having a exam. So I have no time to go there. This exam is quite difficult and I didn't do very well. But my English is as good as usual though I am so careless that I have written a sentence "I WILL GIVE YOU A CALL AS SOON AS HE ARRIVE IN BEIJING". I cannot be relaxed because we'll have another exam in a few days. Maybe I can't go there often. After this exam I realize that I have a lot of things to improve.
We have two holidays in a year-summer holiday and winter holiday. Winter holiday is usually a month, during the Chinese New Year. Summer holiday is from July to Augest. We don't have any other long holidays. But in the third year in middle school, we often have even less holidays. If there is a 2-month-holiday, we have only half of it. It's a bad thing for us to see the other people staying at home and having a good rest.
Hi,Marianne.
Do you mean you are a English teacher?
I am so excited if so.

Maybe should be this:
Quote:
We have two holidays per year; summer holiday and winter holiday. Winter holiday usually lasts a month, during the Chinese New Year, while summer holiday is from July to August. We don't have any other long holidays. However, we often have fewer holidays in the third year in middle school.

I don't understand what you mean about having only half of a two month holiday. Maybe you meant
Quote:
If you have a two month holiday in the US, then that would make us feel badly. We only have half as long, and we don't like to see others staying at home and having a good rest while we are at school.
But perhaps this is just a matter of style.

Also, while in the UK it is usually referred to as a "holiday", in the US it is usually referred to as a "vacation".
Hi Again,

Yes, I taught English to students from around the world. I loved it!! The classes had many students from various countries and in the evenings we'd often socialize together. It was a lot of fun to learn about the different cultures of others and regardless of where everyone was from we all conversed in English. It was the only language we all had in common. The students in the classes were from Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Last year, I taught part time at a Korean school. Did you know that on average Asian students understand english grammar far better than native speakers?(Meaning people that have English as their first language) Most of us in North America just speak the language but don't understand past present perfect tense ...and all the other tenses! You'd probably score higher on an grammar exam if both of us had to take a test! I had to study just as hard as the students in order to teach grammar lessons! :D I preferred the conversational classes much better!

Many of my friends now teach in other countries and while I had considered doing it...I have my dogs so am happy to be at home to enjoy them. Panda, my dog in the picture is originally from Hong Kong!! He understands both English and Chinese..as he lived there for the first three years of his life until he was sent to me in Canada. As for me, I speak English, French and am currently learning Dutch. I am listening to tapes and hope to be able to converse in the language so I admire you for your ability to write in English. You're doing a good job and it's very difficult to not only learn how to speak another language but to write and read it too!
Good for you! Good luck with your studies!

Marianne
Thank you,Ron. I am happy to see your post. But you don't understand my "half of a two month holiday" and "It's a bad thing for us to see the other people staying at home and having a good rest". I mean we always have fewer holidays than other student there. And I feel bad because I have fewer holidays.
I think English is quite difficult to learn. I have ever heard that Chinese is also difficult to learn for the people in English-speaking countries. Is that true? :?:

Another thing is, I have tried to listen to some English songs of "backstreetboys" and any other famous singers. But I can't hear what they sing clearly. I wonder if you can understand what they sing.

The last question is, do you know "Dashan" or "Aihua", who is quite famous in some of China's TV show's. Their Chinese is good so that they can give a language show in Chinese.
:)
Most musical acts put the lyrics to their songs on their websites. You could print them out and then follow along to the songs.

I don't think the question is whether or not we are able to tell what they are singing, I think it's whether or not we really want to know. Maybe you could try some Tom Jones instead?
Mr. Knowlittle, I think you need to change your name to Mr. Knowalot!! I am very impressed with your command of the English language at such a youg age...be proud of yourself. You can not only speak it, but type it as well!!!! I hope you continue to do well in your studies and I have to say it is very fasinating reading this forum!!! Take care.
Well, "mr.knowlittle" is a name from a text book. I think it's funny. So I use this name. I don't care about the name.

I don't understand the meaning of the word "fasinating". I have looked the dictionary, but it's not in the dictionary.
Try "fascinating"; root "fascinate".

"Fascinating" refers to something that holds your attention -- you are so interested in it you can't take your eyes off of it, perhaps like watching a magician, or for me, watching a show on television about physics.

Or listening to a person recount the details of a harrowing experience might be fascinating, especially if the person is a celebrity!
Thanks Ron....my spelling could sometimes use a check....spellcheck???
The pictures here is beautiful.
Darcy, I wonder if the person in your pictrue are you.
And also, Ron's words makes me know the new word "fascinate".
Today is Children's Day. Many school let the children under 12 have a day's off. I want to know if there in your countries also celebrate Children's Day. How about children?
I am so impressed with your English. Your mistakes are grammatical, but your words a very insightful.
I think English is a very hard language to learn. But some people have wonderful language skills. I have a friend from Taiwan who came here to learn English. And he learned some conversational French and Spanish (not Mexican spanish), so he could meet and greet the other international students.
I think it is wonderful that you have grasped a foreign language at such a young age.
So anyway, WELCOME!
Yes, Mr. Knowlittle, that picture is of my dog, Panda and me!! She is my pride and joy...We dont have Children's day, but it sounds like a wonderful idea...better yet, would be to have Dog's day :D :D
Wow, Dogs' Day! In China, Children's Day is quite popular. Children there are very happy.
Maybe in one day, there is a Dogs' Day. I think dogs will be very happy on that day.
Alexander from China (I don't consider you Mr. Knowlittle), do you have pets in your home? Tell us about them.
What's your favorite subject in school? Mine has always been Math. It makes sense to me.
What kind of books do you like to read?
I don't have a pet in my home because I have no time to take care of it. The students in China are always buzy with their studies.
In the school, I like all the subjects. But my favourite subject is English. Then math. Though I like them, I cannot get a very high mark. Maybe I don't work hard enough. Maybe my classmates are so great. I admire them very much. So I have made up my mind to study hard.
I have a lot of books in my room. And my favourite one is called "A trip to the west". Maybe you don't know because it is a Chinese traditional book. It tells a story about a "Monkey King" Sunwukong helped a monk to travel to the west to carry some scriptures. On the way there were many fiends. But the monkey wasn't afraid.
I can't tell any more because I can't tell them in English.
Have you ever read this story? Is there any book from China? I want to know.
Greetings Mr. Knowlittle, You have a lot going for you, you sound very mature for 15 years old. I have kids that are your age, my oldest will be 14 years old on the 14th. She spends a lot of time studying as well!! Both my daughters take piano lessons. Do you play any musical instruments? We also have a lot of books, our kids read like crazy!! Have you read Harry Potter? My youngest kids struggle with math, but my oldest seems to love it, everyone has their forte. Do you ever plan on visiting the states? I enjoy your posts :lol: :lol:

Sharon
Hi Alexander !

Best wishes on your studies, including learning English.
If you search the internet, you will find articles about
many American elementary and secondary school students
learning Chinese ! Many students in the Massachusetts/Rhode Island
area are in programs, learning Chinese and some have even been
to China with their class !

There many schools in my area. Here are two schools with courses
in Chinese:

St Georges School, Newport RI www.stgeorges.edu

Phillips Academy, Andover Ma www.andover.edu

You might want to email the directors of the language programs at these
schools
to ask if any of the students would like to correspond with you!
You could help them learn Chinese, and practice your English .

You could learn about what other courses they are taking,
and what sports they participate in. I'm sure they would love
to hear about your school and what you are studying !

Good luck,
Welcome to the forum ! :D
Yes, I can play the piano and the accordion. I began to learn them when I was 7 or 8. At that time I think it's boring. But now I am interested in it. I enjoy classic music very much. Do your children like learning to play the piano,personss(is this a name)?

Harry Potter is quite popular. But I am not interested in it. I can't understand the book. So I have never read it.

I am a boy who has no plans. And the USA, I never think about going there.(does 'states' mean the 'USA')
Now,22,June, I can stay at home to have a big rest. I will be a high school student in 2 months. I have to leave No.40 Middle School. Well, time flies,3 years is a short time. How do I feel? Happy or Sad, I don't know.

But in a word, I CAN HAVE A REST.
Hi Alexander,

I'm glad summer is here and you can get some well deserved rest. My youngest son's name is Alexander, he is 10 years old. My name is Sharon (personss is just a username I picked, Persons is my last name). My girls are Alyssa and Brianna, they are 14 years and almost 13 years old. My oldest, Alyssa, is also starting high school in September. I think she is excited, but nervous at the same time!! My girls like the piano, but sometimes they don't feel like practicing. I also like to play the piano when I have time, I enjoy classical composers like Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, and the list could go on and on!! Is it hard to play the accordion? Yes, the "states" is the same thing as "USA". Have a wonderful summer Alexander, and I'll talk to you again,

Sharon :lol:
Thank you Sharon.

Well let's talk about the weather. The weather in Shijiazhuang is very very hot, especially June 21th and 22th, the temperature is as high as 41 or 42 degrees. But I was having exams then!! What's the weather like here? Is it very hot?

At first, I found it hard to play the accordion because you couldn't see your left hand. But as years go by, I am good at it. At Grade 10, there is also a song written by Bach. It's very famous and beautiful I think.
The song's name is TOCCATA AND FUGUE IN D MINOR.
Tomorrow I will begin a new term. I feel quite exiting. Then I will meet some new classmates. I even can't wait to go to school. I never want to go to school like this.
The study in high chool in China is very difficult. But the live in high school is quite interesting. I like it. Everyday we walk to school and have fun everyday.
Hello. I've just come upon your communications with the forum. Your English is excellent and you seem to be very mature. The fall and winter season is upon us in Chicago, Illinois. The leaves are starting to fall from the trees, it's cool, and rainy. Halloween is just a few days away on October 31. This is a day that children dress up and go to homes to "trick or treat". The kind & friendly children will get treats (usually candy). Many children dress up as their favorite superhero such as Spiderman or Batman. Do you have such a day in China? This is a fun day in the United States.
Well I have ever read a passage about Halloween. It's very interesting I think. In China there's no "Halloween". Because Chinese people are usually conservative. They don't allow their children do as yours. We also want to have a "Halloween" but we can't. There are many differences between Chinese culture and western culture.
I have just been in the winter holiday. And also, the Spring Festival is coming. I am very happy to celebrate Spring Festival. The Spring Festival falls on January 29. At the night before that day my family will watch TV untill the new year comes. We also play with many fireworks. We can get a lot of money during the holiday.
Great to hear from you, Alexander! Spring Festival and the New Year sound like a lot of fun! Be careful with the fireworks!
Happy New Year!! :D :D :D
Thank you very much! How about the Spring Festival in your city?
I realise that in China, this year is the year of DOG. When we meet other people we often say, "Happy new year and I wish you to be Wangwang in the coming year!" Wangwang is the sound the dogs make. In Chinese it is "旺旺", which means very good. However I can't express clearly it any more. So here I would like to say, "May you and your dogs be happy in the DOG's year!"

In China these days, the dogs in more popular than usual. People make their dogs dressed and let them take many activities. I can even see that the dogs are very happy to celebrate their "own" year.
Hello again.
Now I want to know how the dogs in England celebrate their own year. Could any one tell me,please?
I don't know about England, but here in the US there is no celebration for year of the dog. It would be pretty cool if there was. Since we all LOVE our doggies :D
Good to hear from you Alexander. Every day is dog day at my house! :D We love them so much!
It's normal that there is no celebration for year of the dog in the US because there are some differences between Chinese culture and western culture. I also like dogs very much. Each time I saw a dog I would be attracted and wanted to "talk" to him or her. They could share happiness and sorrow with me and make me happy from sad. I really understand your love to your dogs. :)
Alexander,

Who is the puppy in your new avatar picture? He sure is cute! Maybe one day you will have a dog of your own. You sure seem to like them! :D
I don't know either. It's a picture on the Internet. I just want to have a dog.
Alexander-

Greetings from Florida, USA. All the students here are getting ready to go on summer vacation. You sound like you are very busy with your studies and music. Your English and spelling is EXCELLENT. You should ask your teachers for extra credit for "talking" with people from all over the world. I hope all is well with you.
Our summer vacation is from 3rd July to 31st August. It is the hottest time in a year so most of us stay at home. We have a lot of homework to do and we maybe have to have classes to improve ourselves. In all we can’t have a good vacation at all. But I don’t want to be like that. I always relax myself in summer vacation though I won’t finish my homework and the teacher will trouble me a lot. I think we should relax in summer vacation but not study so much. Do you agree?

I’d like to know what do you do in summer vacation. Tell me, ok?
When I was young I used to go to Sleep Away Camp for 4 weeks.
I loved it. There were so many activities to do. Horseback Riding, Pioneering, Archery, Tennis, Swimming, Jet Skis, Rocketry, Ham Radio, Volleyball and the list goes on and on. My son, who is 8 yrs old visits with his father in the summers, we live on opposite sides of the country. He usually goes to day camp while his father works. But this year his father took off the entire 8 weeks to spend time with him.
My son does have 10 days between the time school lets out and he goes to his fathers. I have a lot of fun activities planned. We are going to a petting zoo, within a park that offers fishing, pony rides and a lot of other activities. We also have plans to visit the lifesize dinosaurs a few towns from here. Maybe also a day at the beach.

With my son away me and my daughter will be sleeping in each morning. If she allows that :wink: We will spend a lot of time by our pool in the backyard if it's not too hot out. My husband loves to hang out in the pool after a hard day at work. He also loves to BBQ during the summer.
We might take a short vacation if our finances allow it.

I do agree with you. You are still a kid and should be enjoying your summers, since as an adult unless you become a teacher, you will be working. When I was in High School we were required to do summer reading and book reports. I always waited until the last minute to do it :lol: Even if it meant staying up the entire night the night before school started.
Summer is very hot here in Florida so I try to stay cool by going to the beach. I plan to go to Michigan and Chicago this summer where it is usually a bit cooler. When I was younger I went to camp for a couple of weeks each summer and it was a lot of fun. Canoeing, hiking and swimming. I guess I was lucky our teachers didn't give us homework but I love to read so I was always reading lots of books during the summer. You definitley have the right idea about relaxing during the summer.
Thank you for letting me know your experiences. I really admire you. Maybe my city is not as fun as yours. And my family doesn’t like traveling. It seems that there is no fun in my daily life. But I can still enjoy myself by playing the piano and learning the lessons of next term. I’ll do my homework after 15th August and I’m sure I’ll have a difficult time then. Even I will stay up the entire nights before school start.
All your studying and hard work will pay off one day. It sounds like you are getting a wonderful education. I do feel badly that there isn't much "fun" in your daily life. Do you have friends that live nearby that can come visit with you?

I too play the piano. Well, I haven't played in a while, but I still know how to play. I started when I was about 5 years old and it was the only after school activity I really enjoyed. It's a wonderful way to express your feelings and everyone loves beautiful music. Maybe if you are really good you could teach others!

Wishing you all the best!
hello, my compatriot, very glad to see you here, it's my cute puppy called Xiaoxiao, he is only about 7 weeks old. you can play with him if you have chance to come to Guangzhou, welcome! :lol:
What a cute puppy!!! Welcome to the forum :D
Very cute pup! Look at those big feet! :)

Welcome to the forum :)
thanks, he is in Chengtu City now, and will come to my home at the next Sunday by plane, i'll take him out after he ajust himself to the new environment. and will take some photoes for you.
Really really lovely I think. Well, Guangzhou is pretty far away from Shijiazhuang. But I've never been out of Hebei Province before.
My computer has been broken these days. And I must be practising playing the piano all the day time or I won't pass the test. Though it's boring, I can find interests in it. I even sometimes can play till late at night.
hi everyone ~i come from jiangxi ~
and i have an old english sheepdog called "mantou"
i think he's look like
my english is not well , but i'll try to learn it better
~~~
:oops:
Welcome to the forum batcy0609 :)
I just read about what is going on in China.... is this true?
People can't necessarily believe what North American media/news has to say about what's going on in the world... yes, even the news is sometimes lies... but the picture does say a lot.
Is this really happening there? batcy0609 and shellyshaw - are your dogs okay?????
Here's the link to the discussion about the massacre in China.....
http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=9213
Is it true?
i'm sorry but it's true~~~
“ANGRY”. I can only use this word to express my feeling after I read the report about killing the dogs.
I wonder if they kill the dogs just because some dogs were ill. But dog is our friend. I think they can look over the dogs for they needn’t have to kill all of them. It’s cruel for them to kill dogs.
Here in Shijiazhuang city never kill dogs as people in Yunnan do. And I hope there is no more killing.
Ron, you have a wonderful way with words - well put.
I think there will always be animosity between China and Japan - they are both similar in ways that everything must be clean and tidy and just so - not much freewill for either parties. Take the way Honda runds its company, they have a 5C policy and its basically means that everythign should be tidy, clean and safe and in its place - they pay more attention to this than anything else - my husband used to work for Honda and it seemed that they were more worried about your desk being tidy and neat than actually getting work done and meeting deadlines - old communist culture. No offence to the Japanese - but Americans and Europeans, will never see eye to eye over human right laws or animal welfare, they don;t have the respect that we do, very little empathy. Although, i'm not judging here, and animal curely goes on worldwide, but just more so in Eastern parts of the world.
Animal rights (and environmental protection) can only be afforded by extremely wealthy societies.
Yes and China and Japan are very wealthy
China is still extremely poor right now. Getting better VERY fast, but from where they were they still have a loooooooooooooong way to go.
Maybe.
A new term is coming.
Songs by Tom Jones is quite good and they improve me a lot. Many students in my class are listening to English songs though some of them just listen to their music. I listen to them for both English and music. They sometimes help me of my exam but sometimes not because the words sung are sometimes oral English which is not considered to be very good in a exam.
ha ha ha. That is true. Sometimes the words in our songs are VERY poor English!
What are some of your favorite English songs?
Well in my opinion I think songs by Avril Lavigne (for example “He wasn’t”) is lively so I sometimes listen to them when I feel sad. They can put me up and make me feel like doing something. I also like to listen to Backstreet and Micheal Jackson. I think they are cool and so are their songs. Besides, I like to listen to “God is a girl” “Yesterday once more” etc. I feel great when I hear English songs so I like them very much.
Do you English speakers listen to Chinese songs? If so, how do you like them?
I can say I have never heard a Chinese song -old or new. There are virtually NO Chinese people in our part of the US and I'm sure that's why.
Maybe the people who live on the coasts with large Chinese populations have?
I've had some bad experiences with Contemporary Chinese music played way too loud at campgrounds in Ontario. Also had bad experience working at a bar that was hosting a Chinese battle of the bands (rock-ish type music) which was also very bad. No, don't like it at all.
I do like "Woo Hoo" by The 5,6,7,8s but they're Japanese.
Some Chinese songs like YAZHOU XIONGFENG and SHIWUDEYUELIANG is not loud at all and I like them. I also don't like very loud songs but I listen to them when I am not happy and I can forget everything.
Happy New Year Alexander!
Happy New Year Alexander! Glad that you are our friend here at the forum!
Long time no see but I'm busy preparing my final exam on Feb. 5th. So I have to study until late at night(or late in the 'daytime' in your places) in order to get a satisfying mark. After the exam, the expected Spring Festival will come. :D
8) It is good to hear from you Alexander and good luck on your final exam!
After Chinese New Year, I'm busy doing my homework. Though I did well in the final exam, I have to make it better because 'there is no best but better'.
Good to hear from you!
Happy New Year!! Did people have a good celebration with the pig?
Hello! It's good to hear from you. Try not to stress out to be "perfect". There is no such thing.
I'll try anyway.
:o Wow! I finally find this post. I feel very excited to find this post after years. Looking at my previous posts, I suddenly realise that I'm not that junior school student any more. I grow older and learn more English words. I'm also very glad that this forum still keep my posts after my long being away. I hope the people here don't forget me. Or, maybe some new friends have ever seen my posts.
:D 2008 is an important year to my country. The Beijing Games ended last days make Beijing enven China stand out in the world. We Chinese are all very happy that the Olympic Games were successfully hold and that the Chinese players did a very good job.
:( But before it, about 5 months before, a terrible earthquake hit Sichuan Province and more than 80 thousand people were killed. Though thousands miles away from Sichuan, we strongly feel the earth shaking. We were having a class and were so frightened that we ran downstairs at once. We thought the earthquake was in Hebei Province but later learned that it was Sichuan. Then we began to donate and raise money for the people who lost their houses and families. We heard a lot of moving stories during the rescue later. This is the first earthquake in my memory so I will keep it in my mind forever.
:) The 2012 Games will come to Lodon and I hope it will also be a success.
It is good to hear from you! Yes, I do remember you. I am sorry to hear about the earthquake...and I am sorry to hear of the loss of so many of your people. Natural disasters bring on a lot of heartbreak.
The Olympics are very popular here in the US and many people enjoy watching them. I didn't, however, watch the Olympics, so missed seeing any of the pictures of China.
Take care of yourself, and it was good to hear from you again. 8)
Welcome back!
Good to hear you are still posting here on the forum. How is school going? What else have you been up to?
I took the college entrance examination in June, but with no luck, I failed in it. The final score is far lower than what I had expected. So I have made up my mind to study hard for another one year in another high school. And now I am living a very busy life. The school I am now studying in is very strict with us. So I studies harder than ever in my life in this school. I believe that only study hard can I live my dream.
Good tohear from you! Best of luck with your next exam.
good luck with the exam. lets us now how you do.
Good luck in your studies this year. Good luck with your exam next year. Let us know how things go.
We (in Ontario,Canada) do have a children Day...in the area we live, our children have fun and they learn about safety, nutrition and it's usually in November.
Good to hear from you again Alexander :D 8O
