I woke suddenly to hear Tiggy crying loudly, a real "ahwoowoowoo" kind of cry. Tiggy barks and sometimes whines but she has NEVER cried in her life. I flung the covers back (the cat went flying), ran down the corridor and flicked a light on as I went past the switch, which is round a corner. I wasn't even properly awake yet so I'm not even sure how I managed that feat. Couldn't do it if I tried now. Already I was thinking has she got up and got her foot trapped in some furniture, what the heck could happen to her asleep in the kitchen????? I got to the baby gate where Tiggy sleeps, nope she's not got stuck anywhere, I couldn't see any blood, so no trauma. So now I've decided she must have bloat or some other internal issue. I'm planning getting her in the car to rush to the emergency vets. Tiggy has got up by now so I swoop on her and start palpating her abdomen, no it's not distended! Tiggy has that dopey "I"ve just woken up look on her face". Her gut feels ok but heck I'm not an expert. I looked wildly round the livingroom, in case I was mistaken and it was Rastus crying. No he's lying on his bed, looking at me like I've gone crazy. I looked back down and Tiggy and realised that as well as the "I've just woken up" look she also is looking at me kinda puzzled as if to say "why are you here giving me a belly rub at 4.30am?" At that point Tiggy sat down then rolled on her back! "Here Mom, here's the best bit for a tummy rub, if you're mad enough to get up to scratch my tummy at night you may as well do it properly." This is when I started to calm down, wake up properly and figure things weren't adding up. All I can think is that Tiggy was dreaming and decided to experiment with howling in a dream. Maybe she was getting in touch with her inner wolf. She definitely looked like I woke her up and there is nothing wrong with her, she's eaten an enthusiastic breakfast and been out and pooped as per usual. Me?! I'm still recovering!!!!! |

Oh my!! That would be scary through the 'fog' of deep sleep! Glad all is well--maybe you can take a nap today! |
LOL!! Nothing worse than a dog looking at you like you've lost your mind in the middle of the night and to not really be sure what is going on. Hope you get to take a little snooze later to recover. |
LOL! Well, I think ONE of you might have been dreaming! |
Izzie has done that...fortunately not during the middle of the night. Every once in awhile she'll be napping on the sofa and we'll start to hear a little whimper. Then the howl/whine will come. It is one of the scariest/creepiest sounds in the world. I can't imagine waking up to that |
Hmmmm, Mady was all spooked last night, waking up (and waking us up!) giving out concerned deep "I'm protecting the flock" barks. Maybe she had some sort of telepathic link to Tiggy's strange dreams.... p.s. I'm surprised Tiggy hasn't commented on her blog about how crazy her mum is. |

Good try Wayne heard it too!!! |
Brick has done that a few times in his life. But he was sleeping on the bed when he did it. Absolutely blood curdling scream/howl. You'd think someone was torturing him. It would wake us up out of a dead sleep, hearts pounding. We'd shake him, and then he'd look at us as if to say, "what are you doing? why did you wake me up?" We figured he was having a night mare. |

Poor Tiggy, you don't let her sleep, I just read her blog. Sorry Mim but I have to be in Tiggys side, everybody need here beauty sleep! Tilly did something like that the other day when I was working, thank God I did not have anybody in the phone or they will think that I live in a spoky house or something hehehe |
My dogs bark and howl and moan in their sleep alot. Sometimes they even add running - they're lying on their sides sound asleep, suddenly their feet start doing this running thing but the legs aren't moving And sometimes we get a howl or slight barking at the same time...I assume they are dreaming about something like running after a squirrel or something... It is sort of creepy to hear the first time but I think all dogs do it. But waht a good Mommy you are, running and seing if all is okay Sheepie parents are just the best! |
You woke wayne with your Howling, poor tiggy being blamed for Mommas nightmare OK my fur kids have done that too, psst dont tell anyone, blame it on momma Poor miss tigster, sound asleep, mad mother and HEY what the figgin hell is she doing in the middle of the night, that upright is mental |
For the first few months after I got Tonks and Luna, I would wake up in a panic at night, SURE I heard them crying. I'd race out of bed, into the kitchen, flick on the lights and they'd be sound asleep. Of course, the light would wake them up, and I'd have to reassure myself that they were fine. But it took me a while to realize that I was having nightmares that the girls were crying! I bunked with them for a few nights, and only after i was sure they were sleeping through the night and I was dreaming, did I end up sleeping in my own bed through the night. Strange that my pups didn't need me during the night, but I guess I needed them! |
Wow I'm glad Wayne heard her too. You guys would have me thinking I was dreaming. |
