sheepiepalooza angst

Ok, I know that I am a neurotic worrier. So I have started to pre-worry about Mady and those darn paddle boats at Sheepiepalooza. How is it that none of the dogs jump in?

Now Kim.
You are not a neurotic worrier...you are a sheepie mom, who knows what a sheepie is capable of......

AND........................
..who ever said none of the sheepies ever fell in....Allison??? didn't Tonks and Luna take the plunge??? I know a sheepie did fall in, but it might have been on purpose. There are ducks that hang out in the Grand Basin, so there IS temptation..

Actually Heart fell in from the edge of the outside dining area (tables line the edge of the lake) last year. We were sitiing by the lake having a glass of wine and relaxing, and Heart came around to the edge and slipped in the lake!!! I grabbed her neck and pulled her out. I was a little embarrassed..I had a 1/2 sopping wet....1/2 perfectly dry sheepie and of course EVERYONE was looking at us!!!

When I go on the paddleboats, I just make sure that I have a strong hold on her leash. It will be so fun. Most of the sheepdogs have never been on a boat in a lake, so they stick close to 'mom'. :D :D :D :D
Ok I must confess, I too was thinking about the same thing. hahahahaha
I don't know if I even will be able to get mine on the boat. It promises to be fun and there will be a lot of laughing....
................AND there is a lot of help and support to lure the sheepie in the boats too~~~ It is such FUN!!!!!!! No worries Kim or Carol...We are all in this together and always watch out after one another.
My goodness Kim, what are YOU worrying about?

You have ONE person (David) to do all your paddling while YOU sit back and relax - oh and hold onto Mady.

Seriously, you can hold the dog's leash and after they get their sea legs they take it all in stride just like a car ride. I would say it is a small minority that actually consider going in the water and most of those (Harry) are enticed by the ducks. Holding onto the leash and a firm "NO" usually take care of those impulses.
After our attempt at taking Charlie on a four hour canoe trip last summer I think the Sullivans will be enjoying the view from shore. Boy, that canoe was shaking. I felt like the worst dog mom in the world he was so scared! At least on the lake you'll be able to cut it short if Mady is afraid.
I will have to admit that when we first got the boys on the boat--I was a little worried that one of them would go in! Especially Baxter since he is the one who always 'takes a risk'! But I will have to admit that it was very relaxing and lots of fun! Neither of the boys even considered jumping in--they both enjoyed the ride! The only thing that I can complain about is that I had to do all of the paddling as my DH claimed that his bad knees couldn't take it!! I DID get a workout! This time I will be prepared to SWEAT!! Or I might trade for a partner that has good knees! :P

Luna tried to leap from one of the row boats- she and Tonks were 6 months old and it all looked too delicious for her. I of course, was on the shore, manning my camera when it happened. Riki, bless her, grabbed Luna and snatched her back into the boat. Here, you can see Tonks getting a drink on the left of the boat, and Luna planning her escape on the right:

And then the afterward shot:

you can see the look of shock on Riki's face, and the trail of water droplets from Luna's head to the lake! I'm glad Riki was so fast.

And then there was poor Sam who backed right off the pond's edge and into the water!

Awww--IT'S NOT TOO LATE!! You can still work it out... Nashville is a great place to stop over and rest--before the rest of the journey! That way your drive is not too long!

no- its not about the distance, but the timing. We get home from a business trip on the 24th, and leave again on the 2nd. Its too much travel, to in between throw the dogs in the car and drive the 10 hours. And, knowing its too much, and that I can't help myself and knowing I'd do it anyway, I told friends they could visit with us Memorial Day weekend, and then go with us on our trip on the 2nd. I knew I'd kill myself trying to go and manage the dogs on my own (while I'm still plagued by my mistery illness), so I set it up so that i HAVE to be home.

I'm gonna miss all you guys and your sheepies!!!!! :headbang:

I thought that was what the topic was about when I saw the heading. But no just a piffling little worry about Mady having a refreshing swim. :P

I am not even visiting the play dates forum as its too depressing. Was just tempted here by the angst heading in the list down below.
Aww.

:lmt: hmmm, when *I* point out to Kim that it's a piffling little worry, I get hard sharp things thrown at me....
Actually, now that Tonks and Luna are champion swimmers, you'd have a hard time keeping them OUT of the boat pond this year. Val- you wanted antics???

Seriously, if we didn't have company coming I'd probably throw all sanity to the wind and come. You guys KNOW I'm crazy for sheepies. But our company will keep me safe sequestered at home. *sigh*
Are you sure your guests will be safe? I mean, you're very creative, and sheepie-crazy, maybe your guests would show up and you'd have sheepie costumes waiting for them... :sidestep:
i too wish i could come but finances won't let me do it cause my boys love boatingImage
Karen - that is funny - you may want to trade partners for one with good knees!

I think my two sheepies will be busy trying to get to the ducks!
I WISH I WAS GOING TOO !!!!! :twitch: I had too much fun in Alaska and have a paralized dog that needs my care....... (well I have too many dogs to bring) It still could be worked out :lmt: It was one of the best times I have had :excited:
