Thunderstorms

I admit, we took advantage of a violent thunderstorm this morning. I was startled awake at around 4 a.m. with a massive thundercrash, I thought something had exploded. It was a very intense thunderstorm with constant lightning and very loud thunder. Mady was on the floor next to our bed and she was scared. So I told her to jump up and she snuggled close between me and Kim for the entire duration of the thunderstorm. I feel guilty taking advantage of the storm that way to get some precious snuggles, but she was so sweet and I love her to bits :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww:

What??? NO PICTURES??????
Now that she's been invited to bed once, she will exect to be there more often......like always. Also this makes a thunder fearful dog...or so she will let you believe just to get back in bed. Still, snuggling with the sheepie during a storm is nice.....who was really afraid of the storm.... :lmt:
Yet another in the long line of perqs to having a deaf dog - no fear of storms! :D

Quincy wasn't afraid either. I remember a particularly nasty thunderstorm that woke both my hubby and I from a sound sleep when it boomed so loud it sounded like a bomb had detonated in our attic! I looked over at Quincy, and he was OUT COLD, upside-down, dead asleep UNDER THE WINDOW. From the crashing of the rain on our siding and roof, I could barely hear him SNORING.....

I awoke to a different sound in the wee hours this morning. RAT-A-TAT-TAT-TAT. What the ???? There was a woodpecker hammering away at the cedar roof over my bedroom. I ran outside, yelling, and chased him away. I hope my neighbors were amused!

Nice way to wake up...snuggles with your Mady.

Saturday Mark & I & Howie were out for a walk in the rain, we were about an hour out and it started to thunder. We all were wet, but warm. When the big boom of thunder hit, Howie ran...he was not sure which way to run. After we calmy spoke to him he settled down and enjoyed the walk. Well until the next big boom. After an hour walk back to the car and many loud booms, I think Howie is now descensitized to thunder! :crossed:
We'll see what happens with the next spring storm.

I like the idea of cuddling in bed better than being soaking wet in the storm

Good boy Howie!!

I live with four fearful dogs. Not fun.

Anyway, DH was out mowing the "back 40" with his ear protectors on, ignorant of the weather. MO, who is very afraid of thunder and lawnmowers....actually went and stood in front of the oncoming mower to tell her Daddy there was lightning and thunder coming his way. What a good girl
Violet lets me know when a thunderstorm is coming in because she trying to get my attention so that I will go in our bedroom with her. She likes to lay on the floor in the bedroom between my nightstand and dresser. She also wants the TV on. If I'm busy in my office, and didn't see her "clues" she will lay across my feet. Usually all three of the dogs try to get as close to me as possible. The Aussies are afraid of Violet that is why Violet takes over my feet.
Storms never used to bother her, but I've noticed that since that 4 of July in 2008 the storms upset her.
Abbey isn't as concerned as the delinquents.(Gracie & Oliver) The slightest sound of thunder sends them to me if I'm home when it happens. If it is at night and I am in bed, even that very far away thunder sends them hurrying up the stairs. All 3 have to be on the bed with me and the sheepies have to be touching. I just tell them every thing is ok and I don't react. It takes Gracie and Ollie quite a while to relax. If it goes on all night all 3 spend the whole night in bed with me. If the sirens go off and we have to head for the basement, I grab the stuff I need and tell them we have to hurry downstairs to the basement. We all snuggle together until the all clear. Okay, I GET SCARED WHEN THE SIRENS GO OFF!!!!!!! AND I AM GLAD THEY ARE WITH ME AND I DO MY BEST TO PROTECT THEM!! :twitch:

Fun to read this post. I have an entirely different take on the events of early this morning. Yes, there was a massive storm. Yes, Mady was beside our bed, but then, she normally is at night. She was awake. We invited her into the bed because DAVID was scared and needed snuggles. Mady didn't seem overly frightened. David just wanted an excuse to snuggle!
