From what I have read, its more a bone growth thing, you are advised not to overexercise until they have done all their bone growing,I will read up on what they advise.I am unsure of this too,as I walk 2.5 kilometres in the mornings and I once forgot to shorten the walk and Kayli,5 months, walked it easily, but I know I have repreatedly read, its too far.Funnily enough, our Shih Tzu Maltese loves walking the whole walk and she is officially a lap dog,and her books say she doesnt need extra exercise, just usual play in the house/yard.She would hate to not have her long ramble at least once a day, often twice.I will post again after I find out some info,if nobody more knowlegable does.Lynzi & Co in Oz |
Our breeder recommended that we walk Woof twice a day for just twenty minutes at a time, until he's a year old.
At present we simply take hime on a short walk around the fields, probably a mile or so, and a slightly longer walk once a week when we take hinm out to one of the many forest parks in our aera (we are very lucky in this respect) I'm surprised you're talking about walking your sheepie at 8 weeks! We had only just brought Woof home at that age, and weren't able to take him out until after he'd had his jabs (at 12 weeks I think!) Do you guys do things differently? |
Oh good point,I didnt even think of that.I guess if they are walking on their own property with no other dogs,or only vaccinated dogs?Kayli had her final puppy vac at 3 months, when we first brought her home,so it wasnt an issue.Lynzi |
