We bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-Pawz-Away ... B001I46060 I bought a new litle rug and put that in front of the fridge and put the mat over it. I figure that will maybe teach him that he cannot be on that rug, so eventually we can phase out the mat. We left it off at first, put the rug down, and told him "no" whenever he went on the rug. He started walking around it eventually so we put the mat on. Within 5 minutes he had stepped on it! He did a little yelp and jumped off. Dave has tested it about 100 times so far (haha just to keep making sure it works I guess) and says it's just surprising, not painful. Since he stepped on it he has avoided the rug, so hopefully it will do it's job. Has anyone else had success or experience with one of these devices? |

NOT ME, but you have me in absolute rapt attention! |
Good luck! Hope it works! |
Those sound great. Could have used that with my old Isabelle who loved to snooze on the good conch in our formal living room. As soon as I'd leave the house I'd sneak around to the living room window to spy on her and sure enough she'd be sprawled out where she wasn't allowed. She was so sweet and so old we just let her enjoy the couch. |

I hate hearing when anyone is having issues with their dog because I KNOWWWWWWWWW how stressing it can be, but I've been following along waiting for every update with a little giggle when he finds a way to go around it ...and still get to the food. |
Heather, is Rudie able to open the refrigerator?! |
Yes, Stacy See the post about him breaking the gate, there are lots of fun pictures and stories. Today is the first day we left them alone with the mat on. I'm worried because it was beeping and Marley was getting riled up. I hope it doesn't stress her out! We're going to have to put it on silent. I also left Rudie with a kong and the kong wobbler full of food. He got breakfast and dinner this morning, from now on he will get all his kibble in the morning and veggies at night. Trainer comes tonight. I cannot wait. I have a pit in my stomach! |
The fridge was not open, dragged across the kitchen or tipped over yesterday, so it might have worked. Someone pooped by the backdoor though, so it might have caused a little anxiety too. I turned it off last night and both of thm stepped on it though, so they must not get it completely yet. The trainer came by and gave us ideas to minimize the foraging and some commands (leave it and go to place) to work on. Wish us lots and lots of luck. |
Congratulations! Despite the poop, it is definitely progress. And a pile at the back door is extremely low on the danger scale, compared to trucking the fridge across the floor. Good luck, and I hope you make some progress every day! |
Sounds like maybe you are now on the right course. Wishing you LOTS AND LOTS of LUCK!! |
We had no problems yesterday. We fed him breakfast in a kong (frozen with honey!) and a kong wobbler, and I think he is getting protective (to Marley not us) of it, so I hope leaving it out all day isn't causing stress for poor Marley. They're at daycare today... I don't want to give him too much time to figure out there's something else to get into. |
