figured some people here would want to know that if they're tired of getting drenched during bath time. I actually gave Yuki a bath today but it was before I saw the show or I would have tried it. Makes sense to me since I always put a towel over their face and dried it first and it always reduced or stopped the "shake it out" dance they do. |

I actually like mine to shake after their bath, helps get the water out of the hair. I just hold a beach towel up, tell them shake, and duck behind the towel. I usually have them shake several times before I even let them out of the tub. |
I do virtually the same thing - I've taught Chewie to shake on command after a bath. If he looks like he wants to too soon, I say "wait" and he holds it.... and I hold up a towel and hide behind it too! |
That's very interesting about the nose thing... I want to see if it works. I tell mine to wait too! After I've finished rinsing off a dog, I pull the shower curtain over and say, "shake off". Since my dogs are so visual, I use a hand signal... it's a horizontal swishing or fanning of my right hand. I do the same thing outdoors too if they've been swimming. |
Funny - I just heard a short little science snippet on the radio the other day about dogs shaking themselves. Turns out, they shake at just the right frequency for optimal drying of their fur, which is different based on the size of the dog. And just to prove I'm not making it up, here's a link: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2010/ ... g-physics/ Oh, the useless knowledge that runs through my head! |
I'm teaching Tiggy to shake on command too. She is just starting to get it but sometimes after I've rinsed her head she shakes too soon and I get showered, so it'll be interesting to try that one next bath. |

Mine pretty much shake on command too and wait when I ask them too. Usually Still, that's interesting, I'll try it with Phoebe for her next bath since she doesn't know "wait" or shake yet LOL |
Oscar shakes on command as well, after a bath, as well as when we are in the garage coming back from a rainy walk. I do the exact same signal that Jaci does, and Oscar does his thing. Laurie and Oscar |
hehehe That hand signal just seemed to make sense. |
Very interesting and really good information! Worth a try! |
Tried this tonight and it works! yay! |
oh i cant wait to try this! billy isnt too bad in the bath, i have a towel at hand ready for the ducking and diving. but i am a groomer and not all dogs respect the wait till i have a towel covering me signal. ill let you know how it goes!! |
