If we choose to get a puppy instead of a rescue I won't accept anything less than a healthy puppy. There is one breeder here that I know of but I am pretty sure they are a backyard breeder. Had awful experience with that on my Papillon. It's simply devastating to have a puppy you care so much for be in so much pain. Just wondering if anyone knew of someone in the area or a surrounding state. I would rather not ship a puppy. |

HI... So glad you are researching the breed~~ Sheepies are wonderful, joyful pups, but they are a handful with training, grooming...and grooming...Did I say grooming too???? I didn't want to 'ship' my sheepiebaby, but since there were no reputable breeders around me, that had litters, I got 'Heart' from Colorado. (I am in Missouri.) There were no problems, Heart flew into my life in July of 2007 an I have enjoyed every second with her!! I guess my suggestion is~~~~ IF you find a reputable breeder that you like...If you like her pups and her lines. If you get positive feedback. If she answers your questions, and asks you about your life...Then..don't worry about where she is in the USA~~just buy the plane ticket.... Good luck!!! and please keep us posted!!!!!! Can't wait to see your 'baby!!! |
Val, you forgot to mention grooming, grooming grooming GROOMING!!!! |
I can tell you that Janet Loehr in Montanna has a litter ready to go I believe. She had 11 pups. Then a friend in VA just had 11 pups 2 days ago. But i would check with Janet. do a web search for Loehr Old English Sheepdogs. She's been (actually both of them) breeding for as long or longer than i have with good healthy, temperment pups. I have no problem recommending either one of them. |
I do echo the sentiment about shipping pups. While I'd rather not do it, we live where there are no local breeders. Currently we have one sheepie from Florida (a slightly older rescue), and one from southern Ontario (got him at ten weeks as a pup). Both did just fine on their plane ride. Good luck with your new sheepie, whatever you decide. |
Have you contacted any of the OESCA breeders in Texas yet? The ones on the referral page are all well-respected. I think Marilyn O'Cuilinn (former OESCA president and member of the OESCA health committee) and a few of the others are near Fort Worth. That would be a relatively easy, direct flight for the puppy to get to you in OK or a fun weekend road trip. You're on the right track with wanting to get to know the breeder and taking your time! = |
Do any of these breeders in Texas or anywhere for that matter have a website? I would love to see some of their own dogs and past puppies. |
Try www.rolingacres.com I too am looking for OES in Oklahoma. Found a couple in Texas but I want to pick up puppy not have them sent. Barbara has Roling Acres, beautiful pups, hoping for something closer though. |
Both my dogs were shipped. I thought about it and they could have a 12-14 hour car ride (double that for me) or 2 hour flight. Both would be terrifying but at least the flight was much shorter. Just food for thought. BTW, Marilyn O'Cuilinn retired as a breeder. She still shows, judges and is well connected so may be able to refer you to a breeder. |

Is Rolling Acres on the OESCA Breeder Referral list? No mention of CERF or OFA certifications. Is Rolling Acres a puppy mill with a "Rolling Acre" facade? |
I would totally recommend Janet Loehr. I bought my puppy from her. She shipped it from Montana to El Paso on Delta almost 5 years ago. Akira has a wonderful temperament and I could not be happier. I would buy another puppy from her in a heartbeat. |
This person has come up as a topic here a few times, and not in a good way. Just so everyone notices, this thread is from a couple of years ago... new post on the same person though. |
We got an unfortunate cross in comments. Janet Loehr of Loehr's OES is an OESCA Breeder of Merit and one of the top breeders in the world. Not to be confused with the negative comments toward Roling Hills She is not connected with that kennel. |

Roling Hills however ... well...complete lack of health testing alone should make people run, not walk, away. |
I don't know anything about Rolig Hills but I have one of Janet's dogs which we got after a lot of research. She has had several dogs in Westminster to it include Winston's dad. |
I too live in OK and have been looking everywhere... there was only like 7 for adoption in the entire US! we searched for a long time... found someone in Norman but man even the pics were bad.. very much a back yard breeder. We found RNB Sheepdogs in Kansas and WOW what an amazing experience. They are so nice and you can truly see their love for this breed. VERY healthy and beautiful babies. please check them out! you can look at their new litter on FB.. our baby will be ready on March 8th and we cant wait! |
Hello everyone! There is only one breeder in Oklahoma. They only have one litter of puppies at a time. They are a very nice couple that live in Norman. They recently had a new litter and have some puppies available. You can see the parents on their website but the puppies shown on the website at this time are their previous litter of Old English Sheepdogs. We got our Lilly from them and she is amazing!!! Their website is Mini Wild Ass Acres. (They also breed mini donkeys.) |
