How much food?
About how much does an OES eat in a day? Like give me cup to cup, I'm trying to figure my budget. I lan on feeding a 50/50 diet of High quality kibble in the morning and BARF at night. |

| It depends on the food! Yuki who is ONLY 60lbs is currently eating 6 1/2 C two times a day. She's super skinny too. Science Diet z/d ultra ...she has the tiniest poop once a day too. Her last food, she was eating 4 heaping cups. Wellness However, there are many dogs on here that are 100lbs that are only getting 3C a day. |
| Mrs. J is right. Depends on the dog and the food. Oliver and Lucy are on the same food. Oliver is at 75 pounds, Lucy at 55 pounds, and they both eat 4 cups a day. Oliver is at a perfect weight and Lucy is a few pounds too thin. You have to figure out what food works for your dog, then monitor the dog to figure out how much they need to eat. Wish I could just give you a food and how much, but can't! I can tell you that I easily spend $150/month for my two's food and supplements. |
| Every dog is definitely different... right now Panda (5 yrs old, about 65 lbs) eats 6 cups a day. Piper (3yrs old about 60 lbs) 6 cups a day, Willy (2 yrs old about 90 lbs) 9 cups a day, and Phoebe only 4 1/2 months old and about 40 lbs eats 7 cups a day and would gladly eat more if I let her. Sadie and Bree are 4 years old and Sadie weighs about 90 lbs and eats 2 1/2 cups a day because she is on a diet, Bree gets about 4 cups a day and weighs about 65 lbs. All of my dogs who live with me are on Pro Plan, the two that don't live with me are on Iams. (Sadie and Bree) |
| Chewie at almost 5 yrs and 68# eats 3 cups /day. Most every day we train at some sport, so he gets some treats as well. Also all the dogs get meat/gravy stuff on their food at least 1-2 times/week. He does eat a performance feed - high protein and high fat. The most he could eat, even when I was trying to pack on pounds for conformation was 4 cups/day.  He just is not a huge volume eater! Loves his food, not a picky eater, just not a big eater  |
| Ryleigh is about 65 pounds and she eats 6 cups a day. I feed her 2 cups 3 times a day of Buffalo Blue Large Breed Adult dogfood. It cost a pretty penny (about 50.00 a bag that lasts 2 weeks) so for me about 100.00 a month on JUST dog foo for just her. Then about 150.00 a month for my 2 labs dog food- same brand but Senior food. Make sure you add in shots, vet bills, grooming supplies... the list goes on.  |
| Jack is the 100 lbs dog who eats 3 cups a day......not that he couldn't gladly eat 6 or more! Then again when I prep dinner he gets veggies......broccoli and carrots are his fav. Nights I can't eat dinner I know no food will be wasted, all four are standing by to eat my meal. How much to eat is determined by how fat your dog is. You should be easily able to feel his/her ribs but they shouldn't stand out. Also, if you dog is in short coat or in the bathtub, look down from the top. They should narrow behind the ribs......a nice waist. |
| Wow didn't think they would very by that much. As for what I plan on feeding, Taste of the Wild. I have a Tractor Supply Company store about 20 miles from me know and when I move, it will be just under 12 miles away. They have 30 lb bag of TotW for $44.99 online. Most stores in general will honor their websites prices if you mention it at check out.... Hmmm maybe I'll feed a 75/25 diet. Just supplement and treat with BARF... I don't know, I figure it out the closer I get to getting the actual dog. |
