Isn't she gorgeous? I hope she finds a good loving home soon! |
she is beautiful!!! Sad she doesnt like other dogs. Hope she finds a good fur-ever home. |
OOOHHH My GOODNESS!!!! I wish we had room for another! What a dolly |
She is BEAUTIFUL!! Simply gorgeous. Can't believe how struck by her I am (that kinda sounds like a Yoda-ism). Too bad she doesn't get along with other pets. Hope she finds a great home soon. To all those that wonder what a nice, shorter OES haircut looks like, this is it right here. Model your pup after Willow. |
She's also on Craigslist with what looks like more recent photos... the ad is below. Four of the pictures in the puppyfind ad are puppy pictures but this girl is now 2 years old. NOT that she isn't beautiful! Just so people aren't expecting a puppy. I sent the advertiser a list of questions yesterday that they might ask potential buyers, the rescue list and Jane's CA rescue information. I didn't post here because it didn't mention in the CL ad whether she was spayed. Glad to see she is so less dedicated breeders won't try to pick her up for breeding. I hope she'll find a wonderful new home/family. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pet/2290269571.html Quote: Old English Sheepdog needs a NEW HOME (La Sierra (Riverside)) Date: 2011-03-27, 5:52PM PDT Reply to: comm-mqvdx-2290269571@craigslist.org Willow Grace is a 2 year old OES and is looking for a new home ASAP. Our family has moved and is no longer able to keep her. Willow is NOT dog friendly. She is very loving to humans and requires a lot of attention. Please email for application. Willow Grace is currently shaved but I've also included photos of her with a full coat. * Location: La Sierra (Riverside) * it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests |
A question for you more experienced folks! If a 2 year old dog does not get along with other animals, is that necessarily a permanent thing or can a dog be trained to accept and enjoy other dogs? |
Based on my experience with training and with rescue.... There are lots of behaviors that are fixable with the right approach...and sometimes a change of humans and situation are needed. Then again, some things aren't. The only way to find out most of the time is to try. If I had to guess for this dog, I would say more than 50% this could be fixed. But I do love a good challenge |
I can't get over how much like Sky she looks. Thinner, smaller boned, but the facial expression is soooo similar! I wonder where she's from or if they've tried to contact her breeder if she came from one? |

The list of questions I send mentions contacting the breeder or rescue... http://untilyoufindme.com/Rehoming-Your ... eepdog.htm Quote: Before Beginning... If you signed a purchase or adoption agreement, you may be legally required to return your Old English Sheepdog to the individual, group or organization you purchased or adopted the dog from. Both responsible OES breeders and rescues will take the OES back or actively assist in rehoming the dog if for any reason the owner can no longer keep him/her. And about her behavior with other pets... That article comes to mind- http://flyingdogpress.com/content/view/42/97/. Sometimes the wrong dog is blamed. And maybe not!! It would just be good to get more information about the behavior. |
I could very well be wrong but it might be the breeder helping to rehome her based on what I see. If it is, that's a responsible attribute. And it stated on Craigslist that people had to complete an application so it sounds like they're trying to carefully match her with a family that will be able to avoid her aggression with other pets. Whatever the case, I hope she'll find the perfect match. She is just lovely. |

If a 2 year old dog does not get along with other animals, is that necessarily a permanent thing or can a dog be trained to accept and enjoy other dogs? It completely depends on the individual dog. Some D.A. dogs will accept new dogs into their pack (not with our quite a few dog fights first) some will fight no matter what. There are lots of variables when dealing with a D.A. dog but to answer your question, some dogs that do not get along with other animals can be trained and properly socialized to accept other dogs. Depending on the dog, training could take a couple months to the rest of their life and it doesn't always work. They may end up being that dog that can't be around any other dog the rest of their life. Its all about the severity of their aggression. Sorry its such a scattered answer. Its really a yes and no answer. |
Well I like yes and no much better than an absolute no! |
