The temperature is reaching highs of plus two degrees to plus four. Not bad, but nothing to write home about...(35F for those who don't speak Canadian). And I am done. Bitterly and angrily done. So as of Saturday I seem to have decided (and I've really not thought about it, I'm just doing it and cannot seem to stop myself) that since I am on spring break it is now sandal weather. And it hasn't been easy. For example we went out for dinner yesterday and hubby had to drive to a clear spot in the parking lot and drop me off, so that I had a clear path to the door (sandals rarely have the kind of traction you need to make it through snow or over ice). He had to pull right up to the walkway when we got home instead of his regular parking area and then reverse and back up to get to his "spot." He says I'm nuts and he's not indulging this further, but I am officially declaring that I do not care that the river is still frozen solid...it matters not that you can still make snowmen in my front yard, and the fact that there are still windchills listed on the weather forecasts is irrelevant! I declare it to be sandal weather. Even if I lose three or more toes to frostbite as a result. I am in full on winter weather denial! (And I know in my heart I'm right...there were three more women that I could see at the restaurant last night in sandals as well! The mind of a Winnipegger really is wired just a little bit differently from the minds of others.) |

At least you're seeing above zero! I've been enormously grumpy the past week with how cold it is here, Saturday and Sunday I wake up to -10 (-19 with windchill) to take Mady out. I can't stand it. A month ago, it was fine, but I just can't stand it any longer. Early spring is usually one of my favourite times of year, but that requires above-zero temperatures! |
I am at the end of my rope too as far as winter goes. ENOUGH. I like winter. I like snowshoeing, skiing, shoveling, hiking, and snowangels. This year has been the longest winter ever for me. I wonder if it is the lack of sunshine? I have noticed more grumpy and 'down' people this season. What gives? COME ON SPRING TIME. Tracie...hope you are able to enjoy your week off from school. Wear those sandals proudly! peg and snow loving howie |
Not just canadians, it is still frozen and snowy here as well. It's 27F (-2C) here right now and not to see any above freezing until maybe Wednesday - and then just BARELY above. And that little bit for the next week - saying 40's for the next 10 days is the max high (5-9C), along with a chance of snow a couple days.... But - the SUN is shining today! My feet freeze, so NO sandals for me. I need really warm weather for sandals. Cold feet = cold me I even sleep with socks on! |
murph mumm mummm murummm wind blowing 50 mph but at least it is murph mummm degrees |
I love winter, I love snow, really, but the cold and wind I hate. I've had enough of it too and can't wait for things to thaw enough to put a new section of fence in and re do part of the yard to avoid some of mud seasons "gifts" According to the weather network we won't see above 0 temps til late next week Plus I want to shave a couple of dogs and am waiting for at least above zero temps before I do that LOL |
Tracie, wear 'em loud and wear 'em proud!!!!! Hubby has been pushing to move to Florida for years and I have resisted, as I am not even fond of humid Illinois summers. This might be the winter that finally put me over the edge, and makes me hate cold more than humidity. It's a balmy 30 degrees here in the northern Chicago suburbs today, but at least the sun is out, though we are expecting snow flurries later today. To all of you folks that live north of me in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Canada, and Alaska, God bless ya'! Laurie and Oscar |
I tip my hat to all you hardy folks who have endured an excetional winter! Of course that left us high and dry............. Laurie, You might find yourself in a mad rush to Florida.......many will be moving south. |
It's been a cold and crappy spring in Chicago. There were a few teaser days, but for the most part it's been pretty awful. I'm also going to blame the weather on my irritable mood lately. |
i was gonna tell you guys i have plenty of room here in fl but then i thought hum .......... |

Traci, you know that song "It's 5:00 Somewhere"? Well it is Spring/Summer somewhere (whisper florida) So put on those Flip Flop and walk proudly!!! I'll be thinking about you from the beach. |
So...*Spring Break* is actually called that because its supposed to take place in the SPRING??? Huh! Who knew |
Just for the record, the sandals looked especially nice last night with my winter coat (granted, it was my lightish winter coat), and my black mittens! |
You've convince me.......I'm trying find my way to NC...............Carolina here I come..... Molly and I will send post cards. |
Actually I've been known to wear sandals in the snow because my feet were too swollen for regular shoes. Black sandals and black stockings, few people really notice. But I suspect you were w/o stockings.........that must have cut an interesting pix. Did you put your sheepskin boots back on when you got home?? |
Spring is wonderful-if...it is Spring weather! It seems here that we just go from cold to HOT--icky sticky humidity--weeds--bugs--limp hair... I truly like winter better than summer--I know that I am not in the majority here but our winters really are mild here in middle Tennessee and our summer weather is too HOT! I hate humidity and we have more than our share of that! I long for the days when we really did have four seasons as opposed to two--from Hot to Cold and then from Cold to HOT! Last week we went from the mid 40's to 80 in two days! How about a few weeks of the perfect mid 70's before we go to hot and humid! |
Yep, Tracy...you snapped!!! Don't your feet get cold? Yeah, I thing the south is going to get overcrowded and the north will be a wasteland. |
Time to visit "Down Under", lovely Autumn (Fall) weather, nights are cool and TODAY, a lovely 27 Clecius. Between Mim and I, I am sure we can house Y'all. Bring your own drinks and if in Florida make sure you visit "Melbourne" there also, I was amazed to hear in Florida they have a "Melbourne" too, seems like the same climate as well in both "Melbournes" |
There is no way I could wear sandals if there was snow. I hate having cold feet! What you did that night was commendable, well done! |
Quote: I am on spring break it is now sandal weather Wow I admire that sort of determination. That just rocks. I hope you picked wild color/s for the mani-pedi. May as go all the way. Something that screams sandal weather. Yahooooo! I'm a native Californian so even when I lived on the east coast I wore bermuda shorts and sweaters - they were the same length as my skirts, so the shorts seemed warmer. It is a freeing sort of feel. Almost naughty - as long as you can feel your toes! Ya know, there is a reason why we are surrounded by Canadians January through April! Come on down. It's supposed to be 93 tomorrow and 98 Thursday and Friday. But the great news for everyone else is that you have some really nice warm weather headed your way. Anyway, think of all the brushing you are going to need to do when it does warm up - and for the moment, enjoy that big lush coat that is keeping your sheepie warm until "shorts and sandals" weather is here. Enjoy! And celebrate by getting some new sandals too! PS Have you seen that new nail polish that changes colors in the sun? That's my vote for your next mani-pedi color change - it's like having a color change twice a day. Very fun. |
I am just heading out now for a dental appointment (happy spring break to me). And I am still maintaining my sandal attitude. I also wanted to add (someone asked about boots earlier) that, while I do actually OWN a pair of boots I have not worn them in years. I bought them for recess duty, but as a true Winnipegger I can look out at a five foot snowdrift and think, "Nah, that's not so bad...I'll save the boots for a really bad day." It's kind of a point of pride for us. And, runners stay on your feet better anyway. It saves you from traipsing through a four foot drift, and finding your boot is stuck and slides off your foot and there you are sock clad and in the middle of nowhere. I really feel for you warm weather types. You miss out on so many adventures! |

Spring would be lovely here if it just stayed on one spot! You can count on lots of blue sky days but the winds can be..........uncomfortable. Tumbleweeds don't just tumble, they get up and fly! Since it was a La Nina winter, we are dry, dry, dry. So with each windy day people hold their breath, not only to avoid breathing in dust, but also for fear of wildland fires in the mountain and plains (see Colorado's recent fires...out on the plains). Breezes this a.m. with the 40 degree weather brought shivers to all. 61 degrees now with mild 15-20 mph winds.....with a little protection, comfortable. Crabs continue flowering, this week Hopa and Bechtel --a study of pinks. Stately white flowering pears continue, even the redbuds are coming along. Noticed my golden currents are starting, love their clove scent. Most years we rush into summer. Last frost here in the valley usually late April early May and by late May-June we are in the 90's. Hopefully not this year, I like the long slow warm up, without wind...... like that will happen. |
